I think because It's a polite way of saying you had a dirty whore but it stings more because it is polite. It's a slap of reality in a polite way like when someone says, "He uses drugs" and someone else replies, "so he is a drug addict.". They don't like to believe they are someone who would have a mistress.

My FWH was shocked in MC when he was saying derisively that the OW referred to him as its boyfriend. MC and I just looked at him quizzically and I said "She was your girlfriend" and he was shocked, literally shocked that OW was his girlfriend.
He really did just consider it a friendly cumdumpster.

I refer to her as 'Whoreface' or 'Bitchface', I sometimes put 'skanky' in front of those names.
I've never referred to OW as 'your' anything to my WH either, it would hurt me more somehow. WH and I were able to R straight from DDay as he was only in the 'fog' during the A, so I never needed a derogatory name for her in order to HURT WH, only a name to make myself feel better. I know calling OW 'your gf' wouldn't serve that purpose.
Sometimes WH and I are able to refer to OW as 'that person' or 'that person we dont like' if we know we will bump into her.
