Hi all, so I am be here and to the board. I just found out about my husbands 3 year affair a month ago and have gotten in a bad cycle of treating myself to feel better which has resulted in 10 extra pounds in one month :o. Just what I need when my ego is already bruised. Any tips on how to separate my eating from the need to comfort myself?

hi, Walking. Welcome to SI. I'm so sorry you had to find us, but it truly is the best club you never wanted to join.

As far as comfort eating goes, that's a tough one. I did the reverse right after d-day, and each d-day thereafter. I couldn't eat, and dropped a lot of weight, in a very unhealthy manner. And I've seen people here on SI have health issues because of not eating and not drinking after d-day that I'm hesitant to tell you to limit food intake.

Can you substitute healthier food for some of the comfort food you're eating? Eat fruit instead of ice cream, that sort of thing?

If possible, go for a walk or do some exercise when you get the urge to grab an unhealthy snack.

Don't bring the junk food in the house.

Make sure you're drinking enough water, too.

I set a goal to walk/jog 100 miles of dedicated actitivy (not counting gardening, walking around the mall, etc- but actual workouts) during the month of August.
I walked a total of 114.80 miles!!!

Hi Walking!
I wanted to second what Inconnu said. I have a monster sweet tooth and what works best for me is to either not bring junk food into the house or to make my own versions, but with less sugar (but full flavor).

One of my friends puts up a monthly challenge on facebook. For September it's 50 miles of movement, plus at least 15 days of trying something new. I've been looking at Zumba videos on youtube, for my something new. I really don't know that I'm that coordinated.

All I can tell you inconnu is I fell flat are my arse in Zumba. It was my shoe. I'm convinced of that!

Well, I lost 3.6 of the 4.6 gained last week which just drives me batty. I really didn't do anything differently, but obviously was more careful about salt. I tell ya, it's a killer for weight loss maintance, especially when I think of how salty the foods were that I ate the week of my gain.

We are switching our workout schedule this week to a full hour of Body Attack and a half hour of CXWORX Tuesdays and Thursdays with Body Attack alone on Sundays. I'm not sure if I can handle BA three times a week, but we'll see.

Welcome, Walking! The rule of thumb for junk food in the house is instead of saying no to junk food once at the grocery store, you have to say it over and over once it's in your house.

The mention of Youtube videos reminded me:

Check out Fitness Blender on youtube. They have a bunch of workout videos of varying lengths.

Great job, ladies.

No longer tracking the pounds, after I sat in my DD's therapy last week and heard myself reassuring her about concerns with hitting a target weight. "It's about being healthy, making hundreds of little smart choices every day. Those are the real victories, not hitting a number on a scale, honey."

Um, Miss. Pot? Meet Ms. Kettle.

So, duly self-chastened as I am, my victories and opportunities for improvement (note: not failures) will be about those little choices.

Today I did 20 minutes of Zumba after a full night's sleep. And I passed up a soda for a water with lunch.

Look at me, being all "good example mom" and everything.

Mondays are my weigh in days! So far I have maintained the 12lbs I lost the first 2 weeks of the madness!

I also decided to start measuring myself, so in the 2 weeks that I have been measuring, I burnt 9.5"!

Losing inches is definitely motivation when the scale isn't moving!

Great job, everyone!

I'm -1.2 for the week, so I can keep the Copper coin without any guilt.

I stayed the same this week. I'm drinking plenty of water and eating well. I've been a slacker on exercising.

I gained .4 lb which is 6.4 oz's.

I feel like a newborn!

So in essence, I stayed the same.

I haven't checked in in a while. I've been struggling with exercising. I've been sporadic and not consistent with it. I've been pretty busy with work and mainly just depressed so I'm having a hard time getting motivated I guess. Weight/body fat wise I haven't really changed much because I've been sticking with my diet for the most part. Not exercising means I'm not building muscle so no weight gain.

Hi guys. I haven't been checking in... not much to report. Glad to see you guys are doing well and continuing to lose!!!!

I bought a new digital scale. No more leaning to adjust my weight! While I don't like the number on the scale, I like being able to look down and see a set number.

It's less than 10 months until my wedding. Maybe I'll be able to stay on track with that for motivation! My mom is also trying to lose weight. We made an agreement last night to check in with each other each week with our progress (we bowl every Wednesday). Of course I want to tell her that I'm losing, so that's some more motivation for me!!

I need to get back into zumba. I've been slacking on going since July. Part of it is that my favorite instructor hasn't been teaching as much and part of it is that I'm disappointed in my lack of results when I was going frequently. I need to go occasionally, at least!

I should start measuring myself again too. Thanks for the reminder, mixed.

I've lost .4 since my weigh-in last week. Yay! I knew I'd love this digital scale.
