A Healthy You! Weight Support Group
Decided to chime in here, because there's no such thing as too much support in this life.
JM and I began a weight loss program last week. It's a clinic with nutritional counseling, lab work, optional injections (B vitamins, and some fat burning amino acids or something.) and phentermine. We also bought an elliptical trainer for the house.
We are both at very close to our heaviest weights. Both at high risk for type 2 diabetes. So we started this program. His goal is to lose 49 lbs. I need to lose at least 65.
Weigh in was Monday. He went before I did and texted that he had lost 9.2 lbs. I was freaking out and worried that I would not have lost anything, but when I went, I lost 5 lbs. It's very exciting and motivating to see the results.
The nutritional plan is low carb and high protein as much as possible. Not really as drastic as Atkins, so I'm more likely to stick with it than Atkins.
So, that's my weight story. Look forward to hanging out here with y'all.
Welcome, HFSSC and JM!!!
Way to go on your losses!
Well, despite strapping on the food trough on Thanksgiving and drinking like a sailor Wednesday night and throughout Thursday, I still managed to lose 1.8 pounds.
My WW point total for Thursday? 51. I'm allowed 26/day.
I would so have been happy with staying even or, as I had given myself, a one pound gain.
Super happy! Thank you, Body Attack!!!
Just .4 to go for a - 60 pound loss since 9/2/12. No medal at WW for that number, but it's well on my way. New bling arrives at - 75.
Wow, aj's! That is awesome.
Weigh in today: no weight loss but no gain and my body fat % dropped. That always happens with me when I start an exercise program so not too upset. JM will weigh I later this afternoon.
JM lost 3 1/2 lbs. men make me sick... So easy for them to lose weight.

Well if you didn't lose any weight but your body fat dropped you should be thrilled, That must mean you added some lean muscle, which is better than losing weight in the long run.
Oops. forgot to check in the last few weeks! But I didn't lose so nothing to report, altho I didn't gain either!
This morning I was down another 1.5. Total of 7, on WW.
My daughter and I have a goal of 10 before Xmas vacation. She's at 9-1/2! But, hey, she IS way younger than me!
I have been lifting weights for 8 yrs so can't do much heavier weights than I have been, BUT I did up my cardio this week .
The GREAT news is today my doc told me if I get my BP down to 110 for a month I can go off the meds!! YEAH!! So cardio, here I come!!!!
A few more pounds and I get to go down a size in my jeans! (which, of course, I already have in my closet )
I appologize if this has been asked/discussed earlier in this thread. I have done P90x and enjoyed the workouts. But, I have not been able tonget past the 2-3 week mark. I have a work week the fluctuates and I am wanting a workout that is 3-4 days a week; where I can shift around my rest days. I have been looking at kettlebells and tbought that might be a good option. Any suggestions?
I'm up 2 lbs. The brightside is that I started exercising today.
Weighed in yesterday. I'm down another 1.4 lbs. Total of 6.4 down in 3 weeks. JM, of course, lost another 5.
My body fat% dropped from 48.5 to 47.1.
Lost 3 lbs this week!! That's 9.2 down since I started 4 weeks ago. 1" off my waistline.
I'm so charged up now!
I want to join you all too....
I joined a local weight loss/management group but I'm the youngest one there and not feeling any motivation from that group. I'll stick with it though because maybe the weekly weigh-in will motivate me. I want to get back to my "young self" weight and looks. I think I've let myself go a bit. Try to re-invent myself (for lack of better words) and feel better about myself.
Tonight is weigh-in night (officially) but I still can't stay off the scale each day at home (not that it does any good because I.LOVE.FOOD). I dropped a good chunk of weight right after d-day but I've gotten it all back
My goal is 50 pounds. Help me do this!
p.s. I hate exercise but will try ( a little) and it is way too icy to be walking outside here.
Where is everyone? Don't wait till the new year....get back on here and get moving!
I have even more motivation now....(I'll post on general as to why)...
I'm down 1.5 pounds from last check in.
What can I do for exercise when it is sub-zero outside and we don't live anywhere near a gym?
Sad in Arizona just mentioned a 15-minute workout series from Women's Health. I tried a set today and it had me sweating buckets. Google it, you can find tons of stuff online.
I do yoga sporadically and plan to incorporate it with these sets -- it just uses your body weight for resistance.
I couldn't do a few of them due to neck/shoulder issues, but I can pick and choose the ones that work for me.
Pushups are my nemesis.
I'm going to be hurting tomorrow. In a good way!
Somehow I've managed to not gain any weight during the holidays. I really think it has a lot to do with that I'm not able to eat at my work station at this job. So even with all the goodies being delivered from clients, I didn't do the all day grazing thing. Go, me!
Through groupon, I discovered there is a new yoga/pilates/exercise studio near me that actually offers classes I'm interested in after work. So I bought the groupon (unlimited classes for 1 month) and will be checking them out in January.
I've got 3 months until I hit the big 5-0. So my goal is to be fit and fabulous at 50.
That's awesome! Go you!
I managed to avoid much of it as well, since I don't really like baked goods anyway (people couldn't believe I was actually refusing homemade shortbread from our resident Scot...), but wine and dark chocolate, that's another story.
Since I can't drink on the job, that's a good thing.
Expect that class to be packed to the rafters, it'll be January after all. I plan on staying motivated to do it at home where there's lots of space and nobody sweating on me.
If I can master a full plank for more than 10 seconds, I'll be celebrating.

Since I first posted here last year, the weight I have lost and kept off is 23 lbs. My goal for the new year is to start exercising again (I need a swift kick to get motivated) and lose the last 8-15 lbs.
Happy (early) New Year!
I am happy to report that DD and I DID NOT gain one ounce on our Xmas cruise!!!
We did an excursion every day, and I worked out in the spa both days at sea. And we only ate our regular meals.
Since we were going away for the holiday any cookies I made were brought to work BEFORE we left, so the house was empty when we got back.
We have both been stuck, tho, for a few weeks, so we recommitted today!!
Faithfool, I received a fb thing for the plank. 30 days! You start out at only 20 seconds (ONLY!) and, should, at the 30 day mark be able to hold it for 4 minutes!! Altho I already hold for 1-1/2 min, I will still use the increments and see how far I get in a month.
PM me if you would like the link.
Awesome job, still!
Hello all. First post here. I have really let myself go the last year or so. I need to lose at least 50lbs. Hoping to get a lot of that chunked away this year. I've already started changing some of my bad nutritional habits, and am starting to ease my way into my exercise plan.
Yikes...haven't poster in a bit...
I gave myself a 5 pound window during the holidays so that I wouldn't stress myself out. All told, I ended up gaining 1.6 pounds through the Christmas rush then lost 3 between Christmas and New Year's thanks to an awful cold/sinus bug.
The crud has kept me from the Y, though I did go on Sunday and pert near died. Was going to go today but we're at ridiculous sub zero wind chills and thought twice about walking out with a sweaty body into a freezing car. Will attempt again on Thursday when it's going to be a balmy 20 degrees.
The Y has also changed the entire class schedule so I have to revisit when I'll be able to go to catch the classes I like. Right now, it's looking like a lot of spin in my future, which is OK, but not what I enjoy.
Happy New Year, everyone!
I bought a treadmill! And I have committed in 2014 to walk at least 30 minutes 5 times a week. I also setup the treadmill in my office instead of the basement so I have to look at it every single day. It was delivered yesterday and I walk both yesterday and today.
I really need to exercise to increase my HDL (good cholesterol) because my Dr and I have reached the limit of what meds can do and it is still only 26. It started at 17 so the increase is great, but it really needs to be at 40 at a minimum.
In 2013 I started to walk during lunch when 1) I was in the office (which is most days); 2) the weather was nice (most days in spring and fall, not so much in summer and winter); and 3) I had time (about 50/50). I am happy about that, but it still is not enough. In a good week I walked 2-3 days. In a bad week I walked 0. And December was all bad so I walked 0 the entire month.
I am focusing on exercise and not weight loss, but I do also need to lose weight. I just HATE "dieting" and tracking my food. I get way to obsessed with it to the point where all I do is think about food -- what I ate, what I didn't eat, what I will eat in the future,... ugh. Instead I try to increase my consumption of fruits and veggies and limit junk food and fried food.
I wish everyone a healthy 2014!
