I bought a treadmill! And I have committed in 2014 to walk at least 30 minutes 5 times a week. I also setup the treadmill in my office instead of the basement so I have to look at it every single day. It was delivered yesterday and I walk both yesterday and today.
I really need to exercise to increase my HDL (good cholesterol) because my Dr and I have reached the limit of what meds can do and it is still only 26. It started at 17 so the increase is great, but it really needs to be at 40 at a minimum.
In 2013 I started to walk during lunch when 1) I was in the office (which is most days); 2) the weather was nice (most days in spring and fall, not so much in summer and winter); and 3) I had time (about 50/50). I am happy about that, but it still is not enough. In a good week I walked 2-3 days. In a bad week I walked 0. And December was all bad so I walked 0 the entire month.
I am focusing on exercise and not weight loss, but I do also need to lose weight. I just HATE "dieting" and tracking my food. I get way to obsessed with it to the point where all I do is think about food -- what I ate, what I didn't eat, what I will eat in the future,... ugh. Instead I try to increase my consumption of fruits and veggies and limit junk food and fried food.
I wish everyone a healthy 2014!
I forgot to do my Sunday weigh-in this morning. I did, however, stock up on tons of fresh produce yesterday, and I spent some time this evening dicing and chopping so I can take healthy snacks and lunches to work this week.
I also got the chain cleaner I ordered last week, so I can clean the chain on my bicycle. I still need to do it, but at least I have what I need now.
I'm going to try to get to some exercise classes a couple of nights after work this week. There's a stretching one I want to try, plus a yoga class. And since I'm posting about them, that means I have to go, right?
y'all have a happy, healthy week!
You may be seeing me in here more...
Lost about 50 lbs in about 12 weeks after D-Day on a very strict medically supervised low calorie, low carb, high protein diet. I followed it perfectly - never cheated once - but if I'm honest, I really did it as a fuck you to my ex, who didn't think I had what it took to be disciplined to lose weight. Once I started eating normally again - and started to not care what my ex thought of me - the weight started to creep back.
I've been through dieting phases since then but never really stuck with it for more than a few weeks at a time. I finally think I am ready to do it for me and nobody else.
I have started back on a low carb diet and switched gyms. I didn't really like the gym I belonged to and I would find excuses to not go. I have been to my new gym every day since I joined last week.
So I am feeling good about this right now and I'm trying to do ut the right way and not just find a quick fix.
Down 1.8 at weigh-in yesterday.
With the New Year, WW launched a new twist to their Points Plus program (they do this every year) to help jump start new members so the bulk of our discussion this week was on that. Itís basically a two-week menu plan consisting of high doses of what they call their ďPower FoodsĒ Ė heavy on lean proteins, whole grains, veggies, fruit and fat-free dairy. Two of the new folks did this and they both reported 5+ pound losses over the two weeks. Iím just going to stick with my points program, especially seeing as Iíll be visiting AJ this weekend through Tuesday and have no idea whatís in store for me food wise. Something tells me high doses of healthy food will not be the offerings.
With the change to my Y schedule, it was looking like a lot of spin to replace the classes that have been changed, and although I love it for the intensity, it is hell on my bad foot (and frankly my arse) plus I donít want to spend the money on cycling shoes for a class I only take occasionally. With that, I think I'll meet with my trainer to see what she recommends.
Iím going to try Turbo Kick and Body Pump tonight and see how that goes. I took kick boxing years ago and liked it, and have taken Body Pump a handful of times the past few months so we'll see how this combo goes.
Have a great week everyone! Iíll update again on the 26th.

I'm making sure this year is a different one for me. This means I'm actually going to do for me now.
Maybe the biggest weight I'm losing is the stress from my WBF's actions. I decided not to carry them around with me any more.
Soooo now one of my first steps is eating right and working out. This is day 6. It's getting easier. It helps to be around other people who are trying to accomplish this too... so I just wanted to say Hi
Ugh! Not only has the number on the scale jumped higher, but my pants are feeling tighter. All this sitting at the new job is catching up with me. It's time to get my ass moving.
With the holidays and new year craziness, I haven't updated in a while. I'm continuing to lose, slowly/steadily. We go tomorrow to check in and get weighed/measured/etc.
Clothes feel better. I feel better.
it's not much, but it's better than nothing - I used the stairs at work 3 times today. I forgot going down to lunch. Anyway, I work on the 6th floor so I got 2 sets going up and 1 coming down today. Going up is harder, and going up the 2nd time was not one of my finer moments.
During lunch, I called to set up my 1st class using the groupon I bought. It's a new, small exercise studio close to where I live that offers evening classes. I talked to the owner today, and she says the Friday evening classes don't have many participants so it'll most likely just be me. I think I'll be getting my money's worth with this groupon, since I'll be essentially getting a private hour session with a trainer.
I am down 8 pounds this week, my first full week exercising and eating low carb.
I have been to the gym EVERY DAY for 45 minutes. I alternate days between moderate paced cardio and light cardio right now, just to get my body adjusted to new activity levels.
I didn't really count calories, just made low carb and low sugar choices. I am going to start counting calories again through MyFitnessPal next week.

I made my goal of walking 5 times this past week. It was tough to get motivated some days, but I so want to keep my goal and it is a reasonable goal, so no more excuses. Sunday I was full of excuses and did not walk, and then wished I had for the rest of the week so I would have more flexibility. No more excuses!
No weight change here. I need to find my motivation to exercise.
I used my groupon and went to a strength and flexibility class Friday after work. It was a good way to assess where I'm at now. It's not great, but it's not as bad as I thought it might be. And I liked the class. It's yoga based, with some strength training added in. The instructor made sure to let me know how to modify the exercises, for the ones I'm not able to do, yet.
Just signed up for my 2nd class, for tomorrow morning, since I have the day off from work.
Well, last Friday I was down almost 13 lbs. Today, another 2.1 lbs. So I am down 15 lbs since November 19th! BMI has gone from 37.1 to 34.6.
Hello, I going to join this thread for a bit of support. I'm looking forward to getting to know those of you on here. I've made the decision to get back to a healthy weight. The only weight loss plan I've ever used is WW. When I'm on program I'm successful. After dday I lost 16 in 3 weeks.
Since then I've let my weight creep back up. After another disappointing number on the scale I knew I had to get back on track. I'm happy to report in the last 2 weeks I'm down 5.5 lbs!!! I also decided to make an effort to get back to the gym. I didn't start until Monday and if I go every day through the 31st I'll get my ins discount. So far I've either walked, cycled or elliptical for a total of 20 miles!
Welcome Elaine! Good luck with your weight loss.
I did not walk most of last week. I was frustrated with teh speaker on my laptop (I was using my laptop to listen to music) AND commercials (streaming radio for variety) AND some songs that I felt could not end soon enough. I realized that listening to music while I walk only works for very short time frames before I want to stop and then the walking becomes a chore. I also tried to read while I walked, but that did not work.
So I ordered some laptop speakers from Amazon and downloaded a Stephen King audio book (found a site with great prices btw -- $8 rather than $25-30). and it worked!! Yesterday I walked for almost an hour while listening to the preface and chapter 1. Today I walked for 30 minutes while listening to most of chapter 2. I have made a rule that I cannot listen to the audio book unless I am walking on the treadmill. I can envisions myself walking for 16 hours strait once I get the the climax of the story!
Went through my mini-vacay with the boy and my birthday week up 2.4 pounds. Which I considered a BIG victory!
Back on the horse(s) this week - regular Y schedule (provided the Polar Vortex doesn't play havoc with their schedules) and counting points.
Have a great week everyone!
Hi Dreamboat thanks for the welcome. Finding the right distraction does help to get through exercising. Just working up the nerve to go to the gym, bitter cold temps here in the mid west.
Hi all! I'm new to this thread. I decided in October that I wanted to feel better about myself. I set a goal to lose 50 pounds and I'm down 23 so far. Almost halfway there and it had made me feel good about myself again.
Having some success with my new Wine Rule. I'm only allowed to have wine in the house on a day with an "F" in it.
Lunch or dinner out with friends is fair game since it's usually on a weekend anyhow.
I put two words into my phone that pop up every day at 4:00 pm after work: TAKE CONTROL.
That has helped motivate me to bypass the wine store on the way home.
I've pretty much eliminated dairy from my grocery list and am making my own nut milk for tea (it's TOO EASY).
Eating clean and veggie most days, whole grains, hummus, eggs and salads.
Now that it's getting light out after work I get off the bus a few stops earlier and walk up a street with a wicked hill which gets my heart rate up like nobody's business. From there it's a pleasant 20 minute hike home.
Since I don't own a car and live on a small mountain, grocery or wine store stops involve another hike down and up yet another wicked hill, with a full backpack on the way home.
That's my gym.
Also started back with a pretty strenuous yoga set every other day.
Keep up the great work everybody!

Hi Cornpop welcome. I'm new to this board also. Congratulations on you success! Nice job!
hi ajsmom I'm also counting points and dealing with the polar vortex! Can't wait for spring.
I was going to do a cardio piloxing class last night, but the instructor had to cancel. I can't remember what's on the schedule for tomorrow night, but I'm going to do my best not to wimp out and skip the class. I may miss it anyway, depending on traffic on the way home from work. They practically shut the city down today, so tomorrow traffic will be nuts, to make up for my much shorter than normal commute times today.
