I have signed up for myfitnesspal and I'm excited to get started. I had no idea how to count calories and exercise before this!
Thank you!! It's really difficult in the beginning to count calories.. I was hungry CONSTANTLY!! It takes a lot of self control to not munch on chips or other junk during the day..
I did lose the weight I gained a few weeks back (.6lbs) and then some.. I'm down a total of 13.5 lbs..!
I actually had to buy new pants bc all of mine are too loose on me... Guess there could be worse things :)
Started WW last week! Lost 5lbs already! I have had success with WW in the past and using apps on my phone makes it easier to journal. I am seeing a life coach next week. Time to work on a better me! I've got 100lbs to lose so I am not expecting it to be a quick thing. I just want to fall in love with me for the first time.

Jaded - I too have a 100 pound loss goal. You're right, it won't go fast but slow and steady wins this race. It's taken me 17 months to lose the 63 I've lost on WW, and I'm good with it.
I look at this journey as ridding my body of fat, not losing it - because I never want it back!
Down a wee bit -.4 - from last week, but a loss is a loss so I'll take it.
I'm having a hard time getting under a certain weight... and it's driving me crazy...!!
For my height, I know I'm at a healthy weight... I'm at my goal as far as pants size goes..... I just wanna see the number I want on the scale....

What an inspiration you are for having lost so much! I will look to you for guidance! I am not going to meetings but I am doing a weekly weigh in with the life coach/dietitian. It is a free service provided by my employer, a hospital. I am shooting for that 10% of my body weight loss before I get serious adding exercise. In the meantime, I look for ways to get off my big ole butt and do things with the kids. H has severe CHF due to his heart attack, so he can't really workout with me. His job is physical (auto mechanic) so just going to work is a struggle for him. My DD, 18, has been a dancer all her life and she is going to teach me some barre routines as well as some tap dance workout stuff. Before I am 50 I would like to be able to do some backpacking and back country camping. That's the goal, as well as the wish to have my Betty Boopish figure at least somewhat back!
Do you go to meetings? What do you think has been the key to your long term success?
Yes, Jaded – I attend meetings. I’ve found it really is what works best for me. I am a returning member – this is my third kick at WW and has been my most successful try. I am so very fortunate to be in a great group of people. We meet on Sunday mornings which works really well with my schedule.
I understand your hesitancy to start exercising right away, but I’m going to give you something to think about. I give a lot of the credit to my success in that I joined WW and the Y simultaneously. I took a 7 week “Coach Me” class that included an assessment of my fitness level and then the trainer designed a program around that and my goals. I am embarrassed now at how poorly fit I was when I started that. For example, I think I made 2 minutes on the elliptical set at level 1. I started doing a half hour of cardio (15 min on the elliptical, 15 mins on the recumbent bike), a series of weight resistance training and a series of mat/floor core work, sometimes using the bands. I committed to it and did this three times a week. I would schedule it into my planner and my family and friends knew what my “Y Days” were so as not to schedule things I’d want to attend.
Once I completed that program, I moved into taking fitness classes. I now take Body Attack and CXWORK (Les Mills programs) three times a week and on occasion do Body Pump for the resistance side of things. When I do hit the elliptical now, I can rip off 45 minutes to an hour at level 7 pretty easily. Yeah, I’ve gotten better at it! I also ride my bike in warm weather a lot!
I think the reason I’ve had such success is the combo of the two and sticking with it. I need to do my measurements again soon, but when I had lost the first 50 pounds I also lost about 29 inches from various body parts. I’ve gone down 4 sizes and am about to slide into another. I “rent” my clothes right now from Goodwill or consignment stores. I buy nice brand name things for very little cost, and then donate them back to Goodwill when they are too big for me.

I'm back. I started Wii Fit today. I set up a Mii and put a goal in. I only did one exercise so far. It took some time just to set it up and familiarize myself with the Wii. I also tried out Just Dance 4.
I have My Fitness Pal, but I haven't updated it in awhile. I should add my exercise that I did today.
I'm also making an effort to go back to Zumba classes. I'm hoping that if I attend a few classes I will get hooked again and be able to stay focused on my goals.
Thanks for all the input. I will think about what you have said about the exercise. My first employer provided life coach session is next week. I am waiting to see if they offer anything else that is free of charge to me. They asked for measurements in my initial paperwork, so I am thinking they will be talking with me about exercise. We have a room not far from my office in the hospital that has free weights, one eliptical machine, and one treadmill. It is free for employees to use. I go to work early (4:30 am, I do this voluntarily so I can be home by 3pm to get youngest DS off bus) so I am thinking if there is a way I can defunk before clocking in then that might work for me. I am a medical coder and my job is very sedentary. I have used an elip before, as well as a treadmill. I enjoy listening to music and trashy, historical romance audiobooks while working out.
DD is also thinking of becoming a certified Zumba instructor. She is graduating high school this year and is thinking of jobs she can do while she is attending college. She currently teaches dance at the studio she attends. I am hopeful she will help motivate my wide load too.
We don't have a Y here, but there are several good health clubs. My budget doesn't allow for that at this time, but I am hopeful that this new "healthy me" program my employer is building will include a better discount for families to join the local gyms.
When I see the numbers you lised about the first "50"and your inches lost I am inspired! I want that too! Thanks for reaching out to me! Do people post their weekly or monthly weight loss achievements in this thread? That might be a good motivator for me too. There is no such thing a too much accountability.
WW's is a big proponent of activity and getting moving. Even if you take short walks each day, especially if your job is sedentary.
Yes - we try and post weekly for support and review as well as tips when we're stuck.
I weighed at work today and am down another 3 lbs. I am so freaking excited. And JM is looking really hot too.
Hey guys. I had a follow up with my dr again last week. After lots of research and some really frank discussions about what I was doing and what poor results I'd had after 4 months of diet changes, cut calories and what exercise I could find the energy to do, we decided to try a prescription supplement. I'm sure it will be unpopular and if I need to stop posting here because of that I will. I just wanted to say that it's doing something. My energy level is up enough for some regular exercise and my family is pitching in to make sure we all get some. I've had the energy to actually play with my kids instead of just watching them. Also, I'm down this week 2.4lbs (over twice what I had lost in the previous 4 months). I know that this is a short term fix, but the diet changes I made before and using the time on this supplement to help me build exercise habits I'm hoping will be what I need to get me to a healthy weight and then to maintain it.
Ok gang i've read every post from Dec to today... Everyone is doing great. For those of you who slacked off do to unforseen occurances or whatever have gotten right back on track or working their way bavk on, whatever..i say Kudos to all of you....

Thank you for kicking my tail back into gear. I haven't posted in here lately, but I am really cleaning up my eating habits and plan to check progress in a month. My biggest challenge will be incorporating exercise.

Weighed in on Tuesday and lost another 5lbs this week. That is 10lbs down in 2 weeks. yay!! I know that rate won't last for long so enjoying it while I can.

Are you doing Simple Start or counting points?
I ask because in our meetings lately, folks have been reporting losses like that using the Simple Start plan.
Doing old school points for now because I already had all the materials for it and knew the program well. Using app on ny iPhone to journal points. As I get further along I will go rejoin WW to get the new program info.
What is the premise of the Simple Start plan?
It's basically using their Power Foods only for the first two weeks versus counting points.
In other words, an "eat as much as you can/want from these lists" plan.
ETA: Power Foods = Lots of veggies, fruits, proteins, good carbs, etc.

I'm down .7 lbs!! I've been counting calories, but haven't been as diligent with it lately... Wasn't expecting to lose any weight.. Always nice to be pleasantly surprised :))
Up a tad bit - .2 pounds, which actually pleased me as Summer Shandy is back (my FAVORITE beer) and I had to make sure this season's "crop" was good.
