I'd like to lose about 15 pounds, or at least stop the weight gain trend I've been seeing the past few months. I haven't had a soda in 2 weeks, I've cut down on my beer intake and have slightly modified my diet at the advice of my sister who is a Registered Dietician. I was thinking about going Paleo, as a fitness freak friend recommended it, but my sister threatened to disown me if I did so I'm sticking with what she told me.

Down two pounds in the past two weeks, so it seems to be working.

Nora, don't get discouraged. Even though you've had to take a break from running you're not all the way back to square one. You will be able to get back to the mileage you were running sooner than you think.

I think taking it slow is a good idea though.

h0pless, Good job on losing those 2 pounds.

I have struggled with my weight most of my life. Finally broke down and had lapband surgery; lost about 100lbs. Recently had a baby and managed to only gain about 10lbs, which I quickly lost afterwards.

However, I recently found out my WH has HSV-2; while it turns out I'm negative I just realized I've gained about 15lbs since then. It didn't help that I found out a day before I left town to go to the funeral of a HS friend who had a heart attack (she was only 31). Food and weight have always been a defense mechanism of mine, and I'm kicking myself for not realizing sooner why I've been on this feeding frenzy lately. Will try to check in here regularly for more accountability, as I worked way too hard to lose all that weight only to gain it back. Wishing you all the best.

Mellie, I completely understand using food and weight as a defense mechanism. In fact, that has actually made this whole journey extremely scary for me - I'm losing my identity (as the fat girl) and my defense. I still catch myself eating when I'm not hungry when things get really emotional. Got any specific tips or tricks you use to keep yourself from doing that? I'd love to hear them.

musiclovingmom,

Not gonna lie; it's tough. I still struggle with it, even though my eating is restricted somewhat due to the band. I physically have to pause, think about what's going on, and decide to do something different. I'm currently on WW again, so tracking food helps. Also, I got rid of all my 'fat clothes' earlier this year and refuse to buy anything larger, so whenever stuff starts getting tight I know I need to step my game up.

Previously when I felt myself getting overwhelmed I had to 'escape'; I would dismiss myself, give the baby to my husband, and go for a walk or jog. If he wasn't home then sometimes I would just have to put the baby in his crib and go to another room to decompress for a few minutes. Cleaning is also another one of my outlets when I get stressed...lol. No one outside of this forum knows about this latest diagnosis, so like I said earlier it's really been a struggle holding myself together and not having someone to talk to. Being here helps a lot, and know that there's always an open ear here if you ever need to vent.

Only got 2 workouts in this week. Saturday and Sunday. I kind of dropped the ball as I know I could have gotten a 3rd in on either Monday or Friday. I was just being lazy.

My mom continually tells me that it's ok to miss a workout or have a cheat meal as long as that doesn't continue to be the pattern. Ease up on yourself and start fresh this week. You got this.

I got my 3 workouts in this week.

I really struggled through today's workout though. I was so close to quitting halfway through which is something I've never done before. My depression was getting the better of me. I stopped for a minute. Gathered my thoughts and pushed through it. I ended up finishing strong.

So much of exercising is a mental game. If you can get your head in the right frame of mind you can push through any workout. Too often people quit because "it gets too hard". I don't listen to my body when it whines because it's tired. I'm not saying go and push until you hurt yourself I'm just saying that sometimes you need to push past that "I don't wanna" voice.

I took this week off from working out. I was just getting overtired. A few weeks ago I skipped out on a workout and said I was being lazy (which was true). That is not the case this time. I think it was best for me to listen to my body and stop.

Hi everyone. I didn't realize that this thread existed. I struggle with my weight too. Before D-day I had lost around 30 pounds. In the last year and a half, I have gained all of the weight back due to extremely poor eating habits. I use food and beer as a way of coping, which is not healthy at all. Before D-day I had established such healthy behaviors. I was going to a nutritionist and was running a lot (mostly on a treadmill) - I even completed 3 half marathons (granted I had to walk part of the time).

Last year I got a bike which I love to ride. BH and I ride in local parks and on rail trails. I need to make a commitment to getting healthy again. I turn 40 in April and would like yo get down to a healthy weight by then (I have 8 months). I recently called my nutritionist and will be going back to her next Friday. I am also planning on doing a 5K in November and a half marathon in April. I just need to get back to healthy behaviors. I'm glad to know that I will have support in this group!

Awesome pizzalover, great steps!

Thanks! I talked about my plans in IC, and we agreed that I need to take this slowly, and to not beat myself up if it takes me awhile to get back in shape. The weight didn't go on overnight so it is not going to come off overnight. I am glad that I will be able to come to this thread to get encouragement!

Great advice. And probably the healthiest way to do it.

I figured 8 months is a good chunk of time to lose weight to be prepped for half marathon. Maybe not all of it, but a large amount. I figure 3/4 pounds a month, plus a deinite increase in exercise will make me healthier by my 40th birthday.

Hey guys, the end of summer got to me and I'm back up a bit. Thankfully school has started and it is easier for me to keep a schedule (which helps me eat more appropriately and not make excuses about exercise). I've got this. And so do all of you! Keep up the good work!

Oh all my darlings. I had weight loss surgery one year ago. Of course I am 75 pounds down now but guess what I'm not one bit happier. Of course he admires my body but not me and I'm not sure if I want to stay or go.

Dont do what I did, life changing. Lose as you can and be happy with who you are. Or do surgery for yourself only and for your health.

Need to update: After almost 3 years at first Dday came DDay #2 which was a true PA with an employee. After discussion on DDAy, he appeared to realize what he had done and called her and went NC. Since then we have been in IC and MC but I am strug

Does anyone use MyFitnessPal who would be willing to add me as a friend? I originally signed up on there with some "real life" friends who are not active on it anymore.

PM me and I will give you my user name or you could give me yours.

I'm so excited! I had my first weigh in with my nutritionist and I lost 5 pounds (and lost body fat)! I'm so proud! I still have a long way to go, but healthy habits are being reestablished which is the most important thing!
