We used was to dread my high school bff's hair. The smell got to both of us after a few weeks and it took her forever to wash them out.

I don't know how people keep them clean (i.e. not stinky) ... maybe her problem was just that she was already a stinky teenager at the time?

They're pretty though.

I've had them before, my problem wasn't stinkiness, but laziness...they looked like hell because I didn't put any effort into them.
I had an orange cat at the time, some of my dreads totally looked like when he would vomit up a hairball.....

Well in that case, what are the chances you'll put the work into them now?

Much greater.
I'm coming from a different place this time. It's not look how weird I am, or just not wanting to bother with my hair.
maybe the third time will be the charm.
But I have to wait a while because my hairs are way to short to do it now....I've got plenty of time to think about it!

Sorry....but nobody looks good in dreadlocks.

And if you are in the business enviornment.....not.going.to.work.

People just don't take you seriously.

JMO. But I don't like to have my food server/retail clerk/office workerer looking like they have snakes in their hair.

I get itchy every time I see someone with dreads.

OMG, I think I'm turning into someone's grandmother!! Pretty soon, I'll be telling kids to get off my lawn!

I actually disagree with this. There are several people (men and women) in my office with dreadlocks, and there's nothing unprofessional about it. It's hair.

ETA: Oh, and one of my classmates is an incredibly attractive gay man with waist length dreadlocks. He works in the US Attorney General's office, and comes to class in a 3 piece suit every day. He's one of the most attractive and professional men I know, dreads and all.

I disagree too.
There are some amazing dreadlocks out there.
There are some pretty gross ones too.

I always think they remind me of this guy.

I picked a photo with a mask just because these guys are SO ugly.

I think it all depends on how well they are kept up. My DS23's girlfriend has them, and hers' look great. But she does lots of different looks with them, they are not always down. Sometimes she wears them up, and they look just like a pretty cool up-do. I think the option of being able to pull them up (of course they have to be pretty long to do that with) is a good way of dealing with certain situations where maybe they may not be well received.

There is a Jamacian man that I see at the grocery store every so often, and his dreads are literally down to his butt. And they really look pretty cool and completely natural on him.

Do what makes you happy.

My son has dreads, so I am a little biased. As long as you keep them up, I have no problems with them and my xSO had dreads to his waist. He has a bachelor's in MIS and works for a large healthcare organization. My son is getting his bachelor's in computer science and even though he hasn't graduated yet, he has been offered a job within the college.

*i really don't think he'll end up flipping burgers*

It's your head. Do what you want to do with it.

I don't have an opinion either way. Just like any hair style, looks great on some....on others, not so much.

What is involved in keeping them up, anyway?

Well chicho, you didn't answer the question at the end.

Since the two most important people on this topic are in favor of them, not much else to add.

I guess it is Dreads FTW*.

*Sometimes FTW means "for the win", and sometimes "fuck the world". Take your pick.

We'll see...like I said it's gotta grow a bit first!
I know it's my head, my decision!
I thought it would be fun to get opinions here, from people who don't know me at all!
I like that predator came into it..... That makes it a successful thread to me
