This single thing is hard. I went to get a haircut after work today and the topic of my recent divorce came up. The girl who was cutting my hair asked me if I wanted to go to happy hour with her because I was her last haircut of the day. I sort of panicked and rather than just saying no, I said I wanted to go home and play with my dogs.

I'm not ready to get back on the dating horse but I could have come up with something better than that. Like I had to wash my hair or something. I kind of feel like an asshole.

It can be pretty awkward.
I'm just as clueless so no advice what to say.

HAHA You got hit on and was scared. I know that feeling. It's just funny coming from someone else. Glad that you know that you are not ready yet. One day you will know the answer. (((h0peless))) Big ManBear hugs coming your way!

No matter what you said, I say good for you for knowing where you're at. You're not ready, and you were honest about it. I can think of worse things to say than wanting to play with your dogs!

So I'm starting to look like a weepul and I need another haircut. Do I go back to the same place (I've been going there for years) or do I go somewhere else? Why do I have to be so damn awkward sometimes!

If you like her as a hairstylist and friend, just aren't looking to date her, I'd go back. It might not be the most professional thing to ask a client out, but she is still a professional and will likely be more so going forward.

The thing is, this is the first time that particular stylist cut my hair. I think she just started working there.

I'm just struggling with being a creature of habit on one hand and feeling like an ass on the other. There are plenty of other places I could stop for a $12 haircut after work.

That is kind of sweet h0peless.

I've declined a date because I had plans to scrub my bathroom (which I love doing). A guy friend told me that was a really offensive way to decline. I was surprised - but it was the truth, I did have plans to scrub my bathroom! But I did see his point.

These days I'm well practiced in "That's so nice of you to ask but I already have plans."

I'm not ready to date either - I am enjoying getting out and about though.

I hear you - I will say life is less... 'complex' when I stay home to clean my bathroom.

Its the complexity of dating that turns me off it. I just want to hang out - I have zero tolerance for the dating dance ATM. I feel like I'm watching the nature channel when I accidentally find myself in the dance.

I can't stop laughing! It made her feel so special that your dogs are better company.

Let's see....worse responses could have been..
..... I have to go home and powerwash the driveway...
......I am going home to shave my......
......My cat needs to be declawed...
.......I haven't showered and..
.......I have some filing to do at home
........The dishes are really stacked up at home.

Seriously, you did what's best for you. That's great!

I would definitely go there again. No harm, no foul

I think you should go to the same place, and don't be embarrassed either! She's the one that overstepped, not you. She'll probably be more uncomfortable than you are as well. You can always call ahead and request a different stylist. I always do that because there are a couple of them I wouldn't let cut my dog's hair, never mind my hair (if I had a dog, that is).

Kudos for knowing you aren't ready for dating. Spend a little time coming up with an acceptable list of excuses that you are comfortable with, because if you're getting hit on now, it's bound to happen again.

The thing about it is that if I wasn't scared shitless of spending time with a female I wasn't related to or good friends with right now, I probably would have said yes. Unfortunately, I just finished spending my 20s and part of my early 30s with a serial cheater and in my still somewhat irrational state, you ladyfolk are kind of scary at the moment.

Some dude cut my hair and he did a great job. And he didn't ask me out! Hooray!

LOL! Glad it worked out. I get the scared shitless feeling - we all do. There's no rush, you'll get there once you've had some time to heal a bit more.

Problem solved !

I laugh because everyone of us can identify with your haircut story.

Glad you didn't have a problem this time. I've had conversations with men but never been hit on to my knowledge, so I have no idea if I would hit the panic button. Better to wait until we are ready.

My first thought was, did she think you were actually talking about dogs, or did she wonder what "play with my dogs" might be code for. But my mind tends to go there at times.
