User Topic: How long is a resume?

So... I last wrote my resume 20 years ago in another country.

I have to submit it via email as a Word document.

My son has given me his as a template - it is one page in 10 point font.

Is that the standard form? Do I list references?

Thanks for all advice!

I think I generally use 12 point font but one page is generally considered appropriate unless you have significant experience and/or items like a list of publications. You don't list references and do not need a "References available upon request" as that is assumed.

I work in HR. 1 to 2 pages is fine, as long as you are concise and to the point about your experience. If you have that much experience that is relevant to the position you are applying for, make sure you add that. If you have filler jobs list them as "other experience" and only put employer, position, dates and location with no task bullets. That way the prospective employer knows you were doing something during that time.

What NikkiD said. I work at a college and that's what we tell the students, practically word for word.

Yes to what others have said; 12 point font, 1 page, make sure to put what you were doing if you had "filler" jobs or volunteer experience, and references available upon request. These are all things that were stressed when I was in college the first time. Part of our final assignment was a copy of our resume.
