Unagie, if it makes you feel better, the first G2G I attended, I hosted. SI's own Erma Bombeck, Threnody, was going to be in town and I suggested we get together. Next thing I know, she'd put the word out here in F&G asking who else was interested. We had SIers from four states come in just for an afternoon. I had your fear: how would the others treat me since I was the WS. They treated me like a friend they hadn't seen in a while. As others have said, there are no labels at a G2G. So when you get even half a chance to attend one (or host one) go for it.

Unagie,

After you go to your first g2g, you'll wonder why you waited so long .

Hey if she is not ready to host are there any others from NY that would be willing? I can make it to NY from Boston! I will bring food, wine, and stupid jokes!

I was lucky, my first g2g was at Moo's house

Although WS was super foggy at the time and just a douche in general, I had a great time!

I was super nervous at first but CryingDaily helped me.

I have toyed with the idea of hosting one, God knows I have the room and the pool.

You won't regret it.

Isn't there one ever year in Atlantic City?

The AC one stopped happening a few years ago.

The best way to get one going is start a thread with a date and general location and see who is interested.

LD and I had a couple (NY/NE PA area) and we're not ready to host another one yet, but maybe in the not so distant future, who knows.

As for hosting one I think I need to get one under my belt first lol.

Like Clarrissa, I hosted the first one I attended. It actually makes it easier because you're the boss-man. Kidding.

I recommend flying Jpapageorge out too. It's not a G2G without him bringing home made dessert. (Although he'll cancel any dessert order you make in a restaurant due to the inferiority of the product. True story. )

One day it will just feel right, and you'll decide to go. Then you'll get cold feet, but you'll feel compelled and you'll go--and you'll have a great time! (No, I'm not projecting... ) G2Gs are so great; you will meet the best people.

G2Gs are so great; you will meet the best people.

and not only that, then you get to read their posts here on SI, and "hear" them in their own voices. (unless I'm the only one who does that... )

Nothing says AWKWARD G2G like having Moo contact Weatherly to find out my address so he and NaiveAgain can show up to my house to help me move You know what though!?!?! Almost a year ago today they drove their happy little butts SIX HOURS to help someone they had never met IRL move, because their house was being foreclosed on and none of their IRL friends wanted to help *happy tears* The people on this site are the sweetest and most caring people you will ever meet...even if it is awkward the first time you meet them

OK, if I can go to a G2G anyone can. I have been to 2, and the idea that I actually got on a plane and traveled long distances to meet complete strangers from the internet is so out of character for me it is hilarious.

It sounded so weird to me I did not tell anyone in real life.

But, the G2G's were the best thing for my spirit.

I felt completely comfortable right away. You will not regret it.

I'm in NJ. There was a Jersey shore g2g thread going on but it's kind of died off because we don't know what will be up and running because of Sandy. I live across the street from a park. We can rent a grove and feed the deer! And chase the stupid Canada Geese because they poop to much and are mean.

Mama, that is a wonderful story! Thanks for sharing

It's not a BS/WS thing. It's a human thing.

Aubrie, I love this! This should the be the official "tag-line" of the g2g's

Don't let the park rangers catch you doing this. It's considered baiting and against the law - or in NY anyhow... My kids & I found this out the hard way

Well, technically, LD & AN are Brooklyn; mine is Lawn Guyland.
