I know someone on here did the whole nine-yards with laser. I don't think I want to go to that extreme but I'd certainly like something tidier and lower maintenance

Anyhow, what type laser did you use and how did you pick the service provider?

I picked an agency that has an MD and good reviews. I pay more than most people I know but feel it's safe and well done.

BTW - I've *loved* the results! It's not 100% hair free, but I shave much less and have no more in growns!

In the middle of this right now... went with a high end medical spa that I already knew. They chose the laser and the strength based on a survey I filled out.

It works really well.

Be prepared for pain. Oh.my.god.

Once I learned that you also have to get several sessions of lasering, I chose to wax. Over time, the hair comes in less and less. I use an epilator in between waxings.

eta: professional waxing - would never try that at home!!

Best money I've ever spent, but it takes many sessions. Unlikely you can just get in done in a summer.

I have a high pain tolerance and yes, for me it hurts like hell. Everyone is different though.

They blow this super cold jet of air on you at the same time to try to take some of it away, but it doesn't help that much. The girl also offers to go slower or take breaks, but I always decline. Just get it over as fast as possible. Despite the fact that I am meditating in my happy place and trying to stay relaxed.... my body is jumping pretty good with some of the zaps purely from the pain. It's a tender area! You can't help it.

I will say that the first time is the worst because that is when there is the most hair. More hair burning = more pain. Each time it gets a little better.

The woman who did mine dabbed a cold washcloth on after each zap. I didn't find it uncomfortable, certainly not painful.

Mine actually used ice cubes and it really lessened the sting...

With the laser they use on me there would be no way to dab ice or a washcloth after each "zap" The machine is zapping automatically at a really fast pace and she is just kind of rolling the head of it along back and forth the area to be done. I would guess the zaps are 1/2 sec apart. IDK I'm not in a state to time it!

So, it may be that it's a different kind of laser

I didnít find it that painful; sessions 3-5 definitely had me squirming, but starting at a low intensity and then not having as many hairs to work with made the surrounding sessions easier. That and advil. After a year of treatments I still have some hair, but super light, no ingrown, and I canít see the root below the skin like I used to before I started. Iíd definitely recommend it for anyone with stubborn hair.
