I have looked all over the intenet just for some sort of 'oh, that sounds familar' but nothing is jumping out at me.
I am having an issue at recalling things. Names, places, events. Its not that I forgot THEM, its their names and their noun (if that makes any sense).
Like, I was talking about my group of friends to my mom, and i literally could not name K...no matter how hard I tried, couldn't name her. I know I knew her, I know i knew her name, but I couldn't remember it - and then POOF there it was.
I have actually done this with my kids, my brother, and the dogs on various occations.
I have no headaches, my vision is fine, but I will simply forget i was in the middle of something.
I burned a little pot of water last night because I wanted oatmeal, put it on the stove, walked away - and forgot I was making oatmeal.
I dont think this is normal, but how can I check if something is really off?

You know what my answer is going to be, right? Talk to your doctor about it - be completely honest. Write down the things you want to give as examples BEFORE your appointment. And no, that's not being facetious.
There can be many causes of memory issues. And they aren't all big and scary, but they do make it important for you to get a quick diagnosis.

Oy, I had a moment like that a few weeks ago. Went to my(long-term) dentist. Walked in the ground floor and could not remember a) the floor and b) the dentist's name so I could look up the floor. However, 7th seemed to me to ring a bell, so I headed up the elevator to the 7th floor. Whew! There was my dentist. But, I tell you, the moments downstairs were SCARY!

Are you taking Ambien, by any chance?
I had really bad memory gaps (similar to what you describe) when I was on it.
I remember being in Starbucks with my boss and couldn't remember the name of the drink that I used to get on an almost daily basis.
I had to stop taking it and eventually the memory lapses cleared up.

Couldn't possibly be stress, could it?
I could understand if this all happened about 3 months ago, but I am actually in less stress now then I was from Nov. 1 2012 to about March 1 2013.
But its getting worse now.....as in....I forgot i put this post up...I saw the topic line and thought 'man, i wonder if they have the same problem I do'....
and yeah, i dont want a diag. from SI (no offense SI'ers)...but I was hoping for some arrows so that i could start from somewhere.
Are you taking Ambien, by any chance?
No medications here, last perscribed meds were many moons ago.
I also am not a big caffine drinker, but like to have a beer with dinner
I believe it is called aphasia
So I looked this up and it seems like these are very consistant issues. Mine encompasses everything in my life.
Its like.....i literally can't say the word if i know it....and sometimes forget compeletely that I knew it to begin with until someone jogs my memory.
The times when I 'know' i know what I am trying to say, but physically can not utter the word is very frustrating.
I guess its off to call the doctor.

I feel this way sometimes - like I have that old library (oh, what's that word....
) Oh, dewey decimal system:
in my head and I have to mentally open one of those Looooong drawers and flit my fingers through the mental cards in my mind before I reach the right one.
So, in other words, it takes a few seconds/minutes to sometimes recall that name or place I need.
My friends and I call it "menopause memory", as we are all getting there.
I hope you figure it out.

Well if it is any consolation, I have been worrying about the same thing! I am 46 though. Almost relieved to hear it could be menopause related.
TWO TIMES last week I FORGOT I had a doctor's appointment even though in one case I was driving to the appointment one hour prior. How the hell does that happen? I was driving to the appt - I knew I had it. I got a phone call, I picked up my daughter from school and then..... completely forgot. the next thing I know I am at home and the dr office is calling me. I was mortified. Then a few days later, I am at the car wash and get a call and I have forgotten ANOTHER appointment. This is completely unlike me! WHAT THE HELL????
I am so worried I have early onset dementia or something. I also forget the names of things all the time.
So, is it just being a woman and stress or something?

ADHD....
Dr. gave me a test to take without telling me it was for ADHD, just saying he wanted to gauge stress levels and stuff.
I scored a 41, well into the severe ADHD catagory.
wth? it all makes sense, i knew I had a hard time with somethings, but when this piece was put in, it all make sense.
We really didnt talk about what the next step was, I told him I needed to do some research, see what my options are.
To be quite frank, I dont want this label. But it was there in black and white, i took 3 more test online and obviously it was the same story.
I really dont want to go on meds

As a physician I'd make sure you weren't suffering from stress or depression and do a thorough neuro exam. Then I'd at least get a CT scan and basic labs. At your age something seriously wrong is fairly unlikely. But you should get evaluated.

Another frequent noun-forgetter here. I don't worry about it, though. I just attribute it the fact that I have acquired so much information that it takes time to sort through my brain to find the right one.
I've read a number of times that doctors will tell you that it's not a problem to forget something like where you put your keys; its when you have them in your hand and forget what they are that you should worry.
If I remember to write them down lol
In my case, I would remember to make the list but forget to take it with me to the appointment!

TONGS. yes. Please hand me the tongs.
If this is what it was, I wouldn't worry about it much...but it's more like:
I can see the object (tongs), I know what their function is (to pick up things), but there is NO word in my memory bank for them....not 'omg i know this word where is it' its a "omg i have no idea what these are" and 99% of the time, I only know what they are after someone else says what they are (or who they are).
In the case of losing my daughters name, my son happened to say her name and then it all came back to me. But until he said her name, it was like I had never named her to begin with.
The doc wanted to do a neuro test, where they show me pictures and i have to name them...my worry is that this crap is so non-specfic and there's no rhyme or reason to the name loss that it will be all for not and the will just think i am crazy.
DH doesn't really believe me and he's seen it in action - he just thinks I have 'brain farts' and that its nothing big.
But its hard to work around sometimes, and what if one of my 'brain farts' is that I forget to do something really important like buckle a kid in their seat or something??
