I was thinking "what three things did you get rid of today?"

Oh dear, I failed at the "get rid of 3 things a week" challenge! I don't even know where to start with a new thread. Should it be goal oriented?

I would love to hear about other ppl's successes and struggles, considering as I write this I am sitting 1.2 metres off of the ground b/c I bought a new cootie free pillow top mattress without giving any thought to getting rid of the old pillow top mattress. Do you know where there's room to store an extra queen size mattress? No where, in any house. So I just put the new one on top of the old one until the old one can be picked up by a friend. I know 1.2 metres doesn't sound like much but seriously pull out a measuring tape. It's ridiculous. If I kick off my blankets too emphatically in the morning I bump my ceiling fan.

I should ask for help. I have cleaned other peoples houses. It's always easier than doing your own.

I've always had a problem with procrastination, and a year ago read a book called, "The Now Habit" which really helped me. It talks about the different reasons people procrastinate, and I found my reason, which sounds similar to yours. I would see the whole project, freak out, and not get started because I couldn't finish it and felt overwhelmed. "I'll think about it later."

The book gave me a technique called "persistent starting" which has been incredibly helpful to me. I don't get organized or think about where I'm going or set a goal or think about the scope of the project. I just get started and do something. I don't even set a time I'm going to work. I just get started where ever the mood strikes me to start. Then in the afternoon, or after a snack or the next day--I just get started again.

It has truly unblocked me. I get so much more done--and the organization part just flows.

Hope this helps.
