I've been dealing with a weird flu virus for a couple of days. Last night my temperature was 101.5. I stayed home today. I just checked again and it has come down to 100.6. I feel better than I did yesterday but I have a wicked headache and I'm pretty weak.

I've heard lots of people say that if you have a fever you should stay home but at what point is a fever a fever? 99? 100?

A wicked headache would keep me home, fever or no fever.

I'd say if you're feeling extra crappy, you should probably stay home.

100.6 would keep me home.

Yup; if you have a fever and you're feeling crappy, stay home. The degree of temperature should not come into the equation. Fever means you're fighting off some kind of infection.

Our schools send kids home with a temperature of 100 or more, and to me that seems reasonable for adults as well.

You aren't going to get better if you push yourself, and you don't want to spread whatever it is you have. Stay home until you have a normal, non-medicated temperature for a full 24 hours.

I hope you feel better soon!

Le sigh. I had a feeling you'd say that. My poor kids have had a sub three days in the last two weeks (two for a conference and one today).

I HATE planning for subs morning of. I rarely take a sick day unless I feel like I'm coming down with something and can prep the day before. Like yesterday after school I prepped sub plans just in case.

I guess that means I'll be up early tomorrow

I consider it a fever starting at 100. That's when I give/take meds for it as well. I had job interview not that long ago and I had to try to reschedule it because I woke up with a temp of 102. That sucked!

I hope you feel better soon.

Everywhere I've worked, and at my kids' schools, they don't want you to come back until your fever has been gone for at least 24 hours. They consider a fever at 100 and up.

Bluelady...

I find having an Emergency Sub Folder prepared and in a conspicuous place in my room saves me a lot of grief if I have to call out sick without warning.

I don't expect my subs to keep going with my lesson plan, so I put in tons of worksheets/busy work that will keep the kids from killing each other that day.

I hope you feel better soon.

We really don't care if you have a fever or not. Doctors don't want people going to work or school if their infectious. Why? Because it leads to more work for the doctors! Please stay home.

Don't go to work with a fever!! You are contagious

I have a rep amongst my employees, if you are sick and want to work - that is your choice...but if you have a fever - I will MAKE you go home.

As a manager, I would rather you stay home and get better, than come in, half par, and struggle through a day.

I hope you break the fever and feel better soon!

If you feel bad, stay home.

Fever with no meds (no advil or tylenol) 100 degrees.

Don't risk infecting others or getting sicker. I got walking pneumona once because I refused to slow down.

bluelady I'm sorry you're sick.

Please stay home and get better. Working sick just makes it worse. Rest and get well.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well!

For me - I work a 90 minute drive from home, so if I'm at like 98.7, I'm staying put! LOL!

Usually the rule at school is fever has to be gone for 24hrs, I would think that would be a rule for work also. If you have a fever you are still contagious

I get an absurd amount of sick time, so I stay home if I have ANY fever (probably 99 or higher). I HATE when people come to the office sick, because then everyone else catches it! No one wants you in an office when you're sick.

I understand it's different for teachers though. You have a lot more limited time, and it's a lot harder to miss time, because it's not like you can just check in on email a few times and everything will be waiting for you when you're back in.

I *love* JRC's idea of keeping some extra plans around just in case.
