I am new to the world of health insurance. Maybe that is why I didn't know that there would still be a radiology bill separate from my orthopedist visit. Had I known I would be getting an xray when I visited the orthopedist for my knee pain back in April, I would've asked if I could visit an imaging center where it costs $35 per knee to xray. That is without insurance. I digress.

ANYWAYS,I get the bill and the due date is 2 weeks after the statement date. I called to ask why I was only given 2 weeks to come up with this money because most people I know don't have $344 lying around. The representative said the first statement is sent with a 2 week due date and if it is not paid by then, another one is sent out with another 2 week due date. After that, your account is sent to collections.

Why the hell would they give you 2 week due-dates without any sort of explanation about the ultimate due date being 30 days from the original statement date?!!?!?!

I had a near anxiety attack about this!!!!! Ridiculous.

Thank you for reading.

Offer to pay a little at a time. Most medical institutions do not like sending people to collections.

Honestly, just start paying a little at a time. Most likely they won't send it to collections. With all of our bills for my pregnancy, I've just been paying as we can, a little at a time. They never complain.

Ah yes the ugly side of medicine. I can say that most offices/institutions are happy to get anything these days. Send them what you can, with a written plan for payment, Say $50.00/month until paid, with the date of each month you will be sending it. They should be more than happy to accept that. Believe me sending you to collections wants to be avoided, because they loose out, and alienate that client, and family. Meaning no one will go there because of the ridiculous policy.
I would call back and ask to speak of the head of billing, or the office manager, and explain that you are willing to pay it, but can't do it all at once. Then lay out the agenda for the payment schedule. Good Luck
