I'm in the Financial Services industry and I'm one of the best Executive Assistant's in Australia (modesty is not in my skill set ). My boss is also a retired Rugby Union player, now commentator.

I have NFI about sport but I'm told he's a national treasure. He tells people I'm a national treasure.

I'm one of those people who absolutely LOVE my job. I've only come across one other EA at this level who has small children - I've been lucky so far in working for really flexible executives.

Sending all of the love and strength I can muster to Phoenix1 and her family.

Official title: Aeronautical Engineer – Senior Staff .

Actually had to look that up on my employee profile!

But…like Tred I am now “just a manager”. After almost 30 years, I’ve risen to my level of incompetence!!

Back in the day however…..I defined design criteria for aircraft and then proceeded to develop external loads (forces) on the aircraft due to pilot maneuvers, gusts and takeoff/landing. I did this to one degree or another for: V-22, RAH-66, BA609, CH-46, A-6, C-5, P-3, VH-71, C-27J, C-130.

The icing on the cake is ultimately being able to support flight testing of the aircraft you’ve been working on. That’s where it all comes together.

The most satisfying thing ever in my job was to witness the first flight of a new aircraft (V-22) that I’d been working on since it was nothing more than a set of drawings. The worst day: losing seven colleagues/friends when one of the developmental aircraft crashed (I think of those guys still today – 20 years later).

Now….I mediate technical issues , execute performance reviews, raises, hiring, firing, other administrative bullshit (schedules, budgets, etc) and generally try to get the best out of a team of 25 highly talented engineers.

**** To follow purplejacket’s lead….in my prior (pre-adult life) I washed dishes and bussed tables at a dinner theater, stuffed tacos for Taco Bell, drove a delivery truck for a sewing machine store, worked at a dry cleaners stone washing jeans and pressing them and worked in my dorm’s kitchen. ****

How fascinating to see what everyone does - interesting that there seem to be a very high proportion of people in helping professions.

I have chronic indecision. I have a law degree but never practiced, an MA in journalism and a culinary degree, but have spent most of my career as a writer and editor (and mom of three).

Have just been thinking about what's next...

I joined the military (USAF/SF) at 21. When I became pregnant with my third child the husband took a job in the oilfield and now I'm a SAHM to 3 kids under 4! I'm slowly taking college classes for HR management

This thread is the PERFECT illustration of why SI is my new *google*. Whenever I have a question about anything SI is my first stop. Fast, accurate answers along with witty repartee. Beats google hands-down all.day.long.

@thebig hurts, yeah you're right, should hsve said *under* 60 tather than *over* 60. But I'm not an antique except in the strictest sense of the word - I'm pushing the half century mark now. Well actually, I'm kinda tapping it on the shoulder... 49 in a couple days. The museum "my" switchboard is in is only open by appointment only. (Thren knows where it is) but, yeah, I could sit down in front of it and run it to this day.

I'm a video game developer.

Back when I was with the Waywardz (which is a great name for an early 90s hip hop dance group) I managed a group home for developmentally disabled adults.

Game development pays better, if you were curious.

I work too much, sleep too little and drink a gallon of coffee every morning.

Translated: I own a advertising and marketing communications firm. We have a diverse client base; from Harley Davidson dealers to hospitals to home builders.

I also own three regional magazines, published monthly along with a few custom publications we do for clients.

Today we're shooting three TV commercials so I'm out the door, but it's so great to see some old friends on this thread. (And get to know some of the new peeps.)

Mauimom1 I love the dentist! No sarcasm here. I love that feeling of clean teeth! I am not a huge fan of needles but I want to keep my teeth for life and I can't sleep if I don't floss.

I need to go make an appointment now that I have insurance again!

Prior to office monkey I was a legal office monkey. I also worked as a receptionist for a large weight loss company (oh the irony). I was a SAHM for 9 years and have a useless Master's degree in a field I have no experience in and can't get a job in. And I will probably be paying for that degree till I keel over.

My current job is nice, but I am perpetually broke. Sigh....

I need not suffer in silence while I can still moan, whimper and complain.

If this isn't what I consider soulmate crap, I don't know what is.

I work the overnight shift at a homeless shelter. My official title is Resident Life Associate. Basically we take care of the 20 men, 30 women and 30 children housed there on any given day.

I love, love, love my job. I feel like it is more of a "calling" than it is a job.

I work in the fraud dept back office for several smaller banks and credit unions. The company I work for is the company that blazed the way for web bill pay service, among other things. I enjoy my job, even if it is tedious. They thoroughly spoil us with food and PTO.
