I was a commercial insurance underwriter for many years; then I worked for a government contractor on Native American reservations; then I managed a nonprofit social service and crisis intervention call center; then I managed an eco-tourism company... and now...

I work for the government of Canada in the U.S. (but I'm not a spy... )

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.

I am a special education teacher... I currently teach Middle School (6th -8th) Language Arts at a school for students with Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities.

What that actually means is I duck chairs and profanity thrown at me all day long while trying to make surly pre-teens and teens love literature.

I have in the past worked at the Front Desk of a WDW Resort. Worked Customer Service at a large (now defunct) retail department store and done telephone customer support. I was also a paralegal doing real estate closings.

But I was born to be a teacher and it's the job I love the most.

LD used to work on Wall Street and when the kids went to work with him he used to let them play games on the computers. When people would ask them what their dad does, they'd say, "He plays computer games all day."

NL, I always look at government jobs website and dream of working for them. That's awesome!

h0peless, that's an awful lot of positions for a principal.

Be careful, Sad. NL works for the government

What that actually means is I duck chairs and profanity thrown at me all day long while trying to make surly pre-teens and teens love literature.

I hope you get hazard pay, jrc.

When people would ask them what their dad does, they'd say, "He plays computer games all day."

That's hilarious!

Nope... in fact I make what any teacher in the district makes with my level of experience and education. And we just got our first raise in 6 years.

I like this!! We are a very interesting group!

I likely have one of the toughest and BEST jobs here. I am a retiree specializing in travel and making life enjoyable for me (after all this crap hit, I certainly deserve it!!).

My part-time jobs are as an awesome Mom and Gramma, going to games, concerts, school events, great movies (especially 3D ones ), family dinners and get-togethers, etc.; baker, advice dispenser, sometime babysitter; awesome friend to many people I do things with; house re-decorator, general contractor for repairs and improvements; and the one I like the least - ATM!

TattoodChinaDoll, I wondered about this:

Besides private lessons, I have taught the children classes (birth - 6),

What do you teach them at birth? Is this music related?

Finding what life could have been....... Why didn't I see it?

thebighurt, I like that! Maybe instead of saying I'm unemployed, I should start saying I'm a retiree

jrc, with what you have to go through, you should get more money. Holy Cow!

For the babies it was a mommy and me type of class. Lots of rocking and movement. Feeling the beat and the different qualties like staccato and legato. Giving things musical names. It went up to 18 months so the older kids could actually hold rhythm sticks and bells.

Hmmmm … well, if we started off listing the different jobs from then to now, it would include Marine Engineering in the RCN, encyclopedia salesman, security guard/consultant and then a stock person in a hardware store. Eventually I became a jackleg raise miner for a few years and moved into being a heavy equipment mobile mechanic. I then jumped to being a maintenance supervisor at a variety of gold, salt, silver, uranium and copper mines before moving into the forestry sawmill line for a bit before my latest gig, maintenance at a lime plant. Sheeee… I feel tired just writing it out!

Our kids say "You don't work. You just smoke cigars all day"

My children have a difficult time sympathizing with my long hours when they know the "night shift" I'm working includes the finest dining in a 50 mile radius. LOL

I'm a stay at home, homeschooling mom. This Fall will be the first time I attempt to teach both kids, as DS is "officially" starting PreK. Dunno if we'll survive.

Independent Petroleum Geologist/Engineer...

After having worked at an independent oil company for 7 years after college I started up 4 different oil companies, built them up and sold them... Started consulting as a part time thing to stay busy then had enough clients to make it fun...

So, all you energy hungry Americans... I'm one of the people that quench your thirst...
