We are back in again! Bunt had a Bronchoscopy on Monday morning. His lungs are pretty junked up and inflamed. He did well with the Bronch, and had a picc line put in for IV meds.

This new children's hospital at Johns Hopkins is BEAUTIFUL. We were lucky enough to score a huge corner room with beautiful views of the city, and tons of space for Bunt to play.

The new menu is just like room service. You call up and order what you want, when you want. It's like a high end hotel!

LOL - as far as hospital stays go, I guess if we have to be here two weeks, we sure are lucky to be in this one!!!!!

I was worried when I first saw the post, but this seems "routine", at least for you guys. It still sucks, poor kid

I was thinking the same as Dreamboat...

Glad you are getting the "spa" treatment at the hospital.

Prayers for successful treatment.

Yeah hey... it isn't great - no one wants to have CF or be in the hospital, but the fact that we are helping him - treating his lungs, and he feels fine - helps.

Gotta make the best of it. This is routine - it's his fourth bronchoscopy and fifth hospitalization.

Today we played hospital Bingo, he went to the gym, we played board games and Xbox, and now he's watching a movie. We would rather be home, but.... this isn't too bad

SSM, I am glad to hear he's doing well even if he has to be there

Not to start a health care debate (and I'll have to mod all of you if this does )..
When ds was admitted to the Children's Hospital in Orlando on one of our vacations I was BLOWN AWAY. It was as nice or nicer than the hotel we were staying in . Disney characters came to his room, he had a huge flat screen and an Xbox. They apologized for making us wait in Emerg because someone had come in with a heart attack. I am serious here.. I thought she was kidding. We had only been there about 10 minutes and they had come in as soon as the ambulance brought him in.
It was just a whole new world compared to what I am used to here.

SSM, sorry he has to be in hospital, but Johns Hopkins is the BEST! They saved my life back in 1987, so they'll always be my first choice even tho I live in VA now. I hope Bunt improves steadily and "enjoys" the stay as much as possible. Are you in the room with him? Hope so, 'cause the surrounding neighborhood is dicey at best. Best wishes to both!

You are so fortunate to be so close to a world-class medical facility. Yeah, it sucks, but it would suck more if you were out in the sticks at some county hospital vs. where you are at.

You are blessed and fortunate to be in a state of the art, innovative, and cutting edge facility.

I feel the same about our Rady Children's Hospital here. Top Notch.

Innocent children afflicted with tragic illnesses deserve our very best.

Thoughts and prayers for the Bunt.

Sending (((HUGS))) to you and Bunt.

I'm so sorry he has to be in the hospital, but he is in the best. That sounds more like a resort than hospital

My daughter had to be hospitalized due to asthma for almost 4 days. She was a tough patient. She had Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck come in for a visit (We're close to Six Flags), the hospital staff was great and the kitchen staff was hilarious when I ordered her blueberry themed breakfast I never left her for a moment and that was just asthma, I don't know how you and Bunt do it with CF.

More (((HUGS)))

Thanks

I am just so glad we got that bigger room. At first they put us in a smaller one in the middle of the hall. I walked around the floor and saw the empty corner one, and jokingly asked if we could be moved. I'm so glad I did!!!

Two weeks is definitely a long time, and having him come home for the last few days of it is an option, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that. His picc goes into a main blood vessel, there are three IV meds he is getting right now, plus everything else - treatments, etc... little bit daunting for me with a seven year old.

SSM -

With a picc line, if staying is an options I would stay, definitely.

A couple of years ago I was in the hospital for a week with cellulitis after hernia surgery. They had trouble getting an IV in me, and on about the 3rd or 4th day, they put in a PICC line.

They definitely put the fear of God in me when they did. The techs that put it in gave me instructions on what the nurses were supposed to do when they used the PICC to take blood or deliver meds (flushing the line both before and after), and told me I should make sure they did - a PICC line can very easily lead to an infection if it isn't handled correctly, and the infection from that is much more dangerous because it goes directly into the blood.

Not trying to scare you - just thinking it would be better to stay there with the PICC if you can. I know with me, they had talked about letting me go home sooner than the week I was in, but the doctor decided he did not want me to go home until they took the PICC out.
