This is a new feature for platinum users. You can follow or forget a user by clicking the links in their profile. This is visible on the regular site as well as SImplicity.

If you follow a user, a link to their profile will appear in your profile and their threads and posts will be highlighted on the forums.

If you forget a user their threads and posts will appear in gray and the username and text will be removed. Forgotten users will also lose the ability to respond to your threads and any existing PMs with a forgotten user will be locked. If you have an outbound PM to a user you will not be able to forget them.

Both the follow and the forget lists are limited to 10 users each.

I don't have premium access so can't do either, though I'm sure me being "forgotten" damn near crashed the server when first made available.

If someone quotes a member that someone else has "forgotten" does that quote get grayed out too?

I can understand the follow concept,

The forget concept I feel is very passive aggressive and will be used that way. I guess if this site wants to offer this option who am I to say different.

Posting as a Member: (who had nothing to do with this new feature)

I see the "Forget" option as a great tool for the "Take what you want and leave the rest." motto we try to live by here. I've observed that sensitivities can get exacerbated by members who have polar opposite ways of dealing with difficulty.

With the "Forget" option, you can "tune out" members whose input get your hackles up on a regular basis.

It's one thing to have a good, clean debate. It's another when you're trying to deal with something and there's a voice that is distraction you from your healing.

I didn't have anything to do with this process, but I can see where it can be of great benefit to members who feel "picked on" but no guidelines are being broken.

Just my $0.02

It does not. It only recognizes and grays out their threads & posts.

can we "remember" the forgotten?

Yes. You can do that in the profile of the forgotten.

I kinda feel the same way. If I don't like someone's opinion, I leave it. That's part of the "Take what you need, leave the rest." If someone is annoying or rubs me the wrong way, I don't read their threads or PMs. It's really that simple. I don't click on their threads.

If someone is out of line, being disrespectful, and harassing me, Mods handle it.

I know being a new WS, if I had "forgotten" several heavy hitters and their 2x4s, I may not be where I am today.

Obviously it all boils down to an individual's choice. But I can totally see people abusing the "forget" option.

*shrug*

It's really just giving people power to use the site more efficiently for their own needs.

You're overthinking this, people!

I can remove the "may" on that one! I absolutely wouldn't have been. It was just those posts that I did need.

There are kernels of wisdom everywhere. I've gotten some priceless ones from folks I don't maybe "click" with.

The other point is if someone keeps someone from posting on a thread it's not just the OP that's affected. I've gotten help from responses to threads almost as much as I have from someone that posted the thread to begin with.

its a pretty standard feature on many forums, I doubt its going to be "abused" by more than a few, especially with the 10 peep limit.

MH, I forget how this thing is a constant WIP, to me, the unaware, it seems to just 'be here' and run itself.
Thank you for keeping it going and implementing improvements.

okay. can someone explain this to me in terms a three year old can understand.. a three year old monkey, with little interweb understanding? (I can almost hear MH rolling his eyes at me now )

I get the follow thingy.

as someone who doesn't have premium/platnium doohicky thingy, will *I* be able to see everything and everyone???

if "Sally" starts a post, and has "Bob" forgotten, will Bob just not be able to post a reply at all?

sigh.. this is too much like math.

I guess what I'm getting at is... if you don't have premium thingy, how does/can it change the way you're used to using SI?

Can anyone see this?

Love the follow feature, I do this manually now (which I guess may be considered cyberstalking).

If anyone is upsetting me enough to be forgotten, I should probably practice the 180 anyway, or pay more attention to what they are saying. Nobody here has pissed me off more than the members who were right about things I was not ready to hear.

It most definitely will change the way people can use SI. We can cherry-pick our "favorite" or "not-favorite" people.

Back in the day, I would have paid for Premium Membership just for the privilege of "forgetting" DixieDevestated, wincings-sparkle, UO, TG, MJ, and SLHer.

Guess who ended up giving me some of the biggest "ah-ha!" moments of my life? All of the above.

Being able to drown out ten voices that you don't want to hear is pretty large. I thought most people were hear to get healthy and hear what others had to say.

And I don't think I am overthinking this, sorry AN.

SLH, I get that. I have seen that on another forum I'm a member of. A college sports forum. There is also a no holds barred kind of atmosphere that can get pretty dicey and that's just about which forward didn't perform well in last nights game.

SI has so many protections already put in place. WS's can't post in JFO or on vent threads. BS's can't swing 2x4's in wayward.

I know I'm one voice only and this site certainly will hum just fine without it. Just giving my opinion respectfully.

I know there is enormous time, energy and care devoted to this site by the mods, admins and members.

I agree with Aubrie and TG. Sometimes we're not ready to hear things. Then when we go back to re-read those threads,we may be a little further out and ready for that stuff.
It really is the things said that make us feel uncomfortable that are probably what we need to hear.
