I'm trying to decide if DS9 could be having appy problems. He says that his LRQ hurts and it'a "pinpoint" pain (not generalized), when he stands up. I remember from the years I worked in Peds (many moons ago) that LRQ "pinpoint" pain was a symptom of appendicitis. He rates the pain at a "5" and it hurts when I push as well as with rebound pain, when I let stop pushing. It's not an excruciating pain, no fever, no vomiting, etc. that is usually associated with an appy. Could it just be constipation? His abdomen is a little hard upon palpitation and his stool is formed (the kid can poop like a man ). I don't want to whisk him off to the ER if it's not an appy, but I'm also afraid to let it go. Suggestions?

Better safe than sorry is what I always told myself with kid stuff.

The "pinpoint" area is just to the right of the umbilical...where you would think of appy pain being.

Those are the same symptoms my son had in January. I took him to our GP and they had me take him straight to the ER. The ER staff didn't think it was his appendix since he wasn't vomiting and didn't have fever, but he still had the pain. They said they could do a CT scan to confirm and I insisted they do it. Shortly thereafter, they said he had to go straight to surgery to have his appendix removed.

My son was the same age when he had his appendix out

No pain today, but I'm keeping a close eye on him. He NEVER complains of anything, so when he does, I know it means he feels bad

Mama,
Exactly a year before my son had appendicitis, he got a high fever and had pain in the same area. We were on vacation and went the clinic and they sent him straight to ER by ambulance.
He had a CT scan, was given fluids and pain meds. All the CT scan showed was a small fecal stone.
They didn't feel there was any need to operate as there was no swelling of the appendix and the opening looked clear. They kept him overnight, releasing him the next day for us to make our flight home. We went to follow up appointments here as soon as we got home and they all assured me if the doctors in Orlando didn't feel it was necessary to operate then it wasn't.

Ok.. exactly one year later, same circumstances. We're back in Orlando, it's the last day of vacation and he says his stomach hurts and throws up. I thought "stomach bug". I didn't even know if we'd be allowed to take him on the plane. He threw up in the security line. Right as we were handing our passports over. They still told us to go home.
We flew home, he didn't throw up again and I put him to bed. He slept and slept for hours and I woke him to check on him and he was very groggy and when I went to sit him up he howled
Rushed to the ER and his appendix had ruptured We had Emergency surgery and a long hospital stay for IV therapy afterwards. I feel horrible for thinking it was a stomach virus. It did appear that way at first.

He was prone to mild constipation, and had a very predictable diet at home. On vacation there was a lot of chicken fingers and fries and probably not enough fluids (though we did try). He didn't sleep as well and his routine was off.

Between the two incidents there were no issues at all. So I guess I am just telling you this, not to worry you but that if he complains of it again to go right away. My son was walking fine and there wasn't much pain until it had actually ruptured the second time. It actually hurt much more the first time when there was simply a fecal stone. If you are concerned go have it checked. The only thing I can say is that both times the pain moved from the belly button to the lower right quad. It didn't stay by the belly button but moved down.

My son is the same way and that's why I took him to the doctor that morning.

Last Sept that happened to my son.
He went to a football game, came home, said his stomach hurt, he was in the bathroom forever, so I was checking on him, he said he just needed to go to the bathroom, I didn't think anything of it and went to bed.
Next thing I know, he is crying out in pain at the bottom of my bed. Said he fell of the toliet and crawled to my room barley able to pull his pants up.

I knew it was appendix just knew it. Loaded him up in car and rushed him to the ER. They said they had to do a CT because kids have different symtons. As we were waiting his fever shot up and he throw up and felt fine. Again I knew it was his appendix and I had a feeling it started to leak. Sure enough, he goes to surgrey and it started to leak and rupture.

Last month it was my daughter and it took them 3 days to figure what was happening to her. Finally the surgeon said I am going in. And sure enough I was right again. Same thing. They kept her for 2 days on IV also.

Same thing with myself giving birth to my daughter, appendix ruptured and plasenta. So I knew the pain, and the systoms.

I hope your little guy is okay.
