Meeting for the first time with the lawyer tomorrow.
I'm just bringing what I think he'll need. We are trying for a one lawyer divorce. I have been to other lawyers who were quite aggressive and what he and I have been hammering out is on par with their council.
I just want out as quickly and quietly as possible.
Anyhow, looking all over the net and can't find the answer to my question.
Do you need to provide your marriages license? I can't find mine so if so, I need to order one.

Thanks!!!

I didn't have to provide anything. I doubt they'll even ask. I was even married outside of the US and they still didn't ask for anything.

I didn't have to provide it but FT had us married on the wrong date and married 4 yrs before we were .

My sister just divorced second H and she just filed social security against her first XH that never remarried and died recently. She had to provide both marriage certificates and both divorce papers to them. Might want to get a copy anyway.

I think I had to file a photocopy of mine with the paperwork when I filed for D. But I filed pro se, so I'm not sure when an attorney would need it.

A copy of ours was filed with the paperwork. I think it was because we were not married in the state we were currently living and divorcing in.

No marriage license required for my divorce.
@gma56 my ex is turning 70 in 2 days and he has a bad ticker. Like your sister, I can actually file for social security when he kicks the bucket?

Don't have to provide it for our dissolution and we are doing it pro se.

Got2Go, read this about SS for ex-spouses: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/retire2/yourdivspouse.htm

Got2Go- My sister is 62 and collecting her own. 1st XH died a few months ago but had never remarried. the amount will be added to her check starting this month.

Yes check out website but unless rules change by the time you are 62, you will probably be able to if he paid in during enough quarters during his working years.
ETA: If you weren't married for 10 yrs, then I don't think so but if you have minor kids and he dies, then you cancollect for them until age of 18.

Thanks gma56. Darn! I was just married to that POS for 6 loooong years. That was about 5 years 11 months too long after finding out he cheated 2 weeks after we were married, lol! My eyes just kind of widen when I thought there was a slight chance of something positive from this marriage.
