Sort of a t/j of the royal baby's crowning...

This might be dicey due to the need for anonymity, but how did you get your name?

Due to my being born into a Catholic family, I had to be named after a saint. Because I'm a smartass, I used to tell everyone my saint was barbequed; didn't go over well in Catholic school...

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.

I got the feminine version of my dad and grandfather's name.

Crazy because I have an older brother that should have gotten their name.

I was named after the Mouseketeer that my dad adored.

I'm named after a German legend. My dad had been in the Air Force and stationed in Germany where he heard the name and when the time came to pick my name, that's what he chose.

It was a popular British name that my grandma suggested. It didn't really catch on here until a few years later so there were girls 7 or 8 years younger than me with the name but not when I was little.

I don't mind telling my name since it's on the video I shared.

My name is Holly. I was born very close to Christmas and my parents were hoping for a boy, so hadn't picked out any girls' names. When I arrived just after Christmas with girl parts instead of boy parts, they had to come up with something quick.

My favorite part of my story is that my sister was 4 yrs old when I was born, and all she wanted for Christmas was a baby doll that would cry and wet. She got me, and I think it was much more than she had bargained for. she calls me every year on my birthday, though, and tells me I'm the best Christmas present she ever got.

I was named after a "famous" 50/60's Movie actress.... a favorite of my mom's.

When my mom named me she didn't know a single other person with my name except the actress.

By the time I was in Elementary school there were 5 of us.

I guess a lot of people saw her films at the same time.

This is pretty twisted but...my father insisted on my name. My mother claimed it was after his OW and that she discovered that later. She therefore hated my name and apparently me. Yeah, FOO issues all over the place. Even calling me to dinner, or writing my name on a gift tag was a trigger for her.

Mine is (was) the short version of my mother's middle name with an alternate spelling. These days it's a proper name on it's own. It's also my maternal grandfather's name - again with the alternate spelling. There are at least two well known actresses - and one movie - with my name.

Some girl my parents babysat. They didn't have an attachment, just liked the name.

ETA- MrH was named after a soap opera character. Many people say there's no character on the soap opera with his name...they forget it was 40 yrs ago...

My parents had a different name picked out for me, but when I was born, the name didn't go with my face (seriously), so they picked another name out of the ether.

The following year, they gave my original name to my sister when she was born. Apparently it suited her face.

I asked my mom this once. She said she didn't know. They just kind of liked it.

So lame.

I was supposed to be named after Princess Diana but then I was born a boy. I think they panicked and picked the most common boy's name of 1981.

My first name is the last name of XXXXXXXX (spelled differently though).
My mother heard the name and like the way it sounded.

(For privacy, I'll probably edit some of this later).

My name came from my great-great grandmother, and my middle name from my mom. My dad wanted me to have a french first name, since our last name is french, but my mom fought for great-great grandma's name and won. I've always liked it, so I'm happy with their choice.

My father wanted to name me Charo, after, yes, Charo the guitarist/entertainer. My mother refused and told him to pick a name meaningful to him.

He was a chemical engineer.

Hi. I'm Crystal.

I'll edit this tomorrow.

These are interesting.

My mom believes I was named after a high school down the street from where she lived, but she doesn't really remember. She doesn't even know how she got my middle name.

I got my oldest son's name off a soap opera and my younger son was named by my ex from a baby name book.

I was an oops baby. Mom was tired...had three young kids already. We lived a few miles from Mattel, and my folks knew many people there. So my older sibs had all of the new Mattel toys...including Barbie, and Ken.

So mom told them they could name the new baby.

Yep, I'm Barbie. And I went to HS prom with a boy named Ken.

My brother named me. It's not a horrible name. But I have only met 3 other people my age with the name. The other 3 people I've met with my name are 25+ years older than me. The odd thing about my name is how it fits my maiden name and what I look like. My father's side of the family is Eastern European Jewish. My mom is Chinese. So I have a very Jewish maiden name. And my first name is more commonly a Jewish name. But depending on who you ask, I've been told I look Chinese, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Hawaiian, Somoan, Eskimo...even Italian. I'm sure my teachers were very confused.
