I finally got motivated to get myself out and meet new people Saturday. An old friend had invited me to a BBQ. He lives about an hour from my mountain house. At first I was not gonna go because I really was not into it and I was not in the mountains. But I got up early Saturday morning, tossed some nice clothes in the back of the truck and me and my dog headed out. Got to my place early and I took a nap. I got a text from friend asking if I was showing up and I finally said yes I was. Picked up a couple bottles of wine and some steaks and headed out. When I got there a couple other of the guys I grew up with were there. Had not seen "the boys" in years. It was a pleasant surprise. We laughed, caught up, joked about the old days etc. I have to say I really enjoyed myself. It was nice to also meet some new people and a chat with a few of the single ladies. While I did not connect with any of them it was comfortable talking to them.
Now that my house is just about done I think I'm going to start getting out more. It really felt good to be able to mingle without any pressure. Aside from the hosts most of the people there were single. And I knew many of them so it was easy to just hang and be myself for a change. As my old friend is recently retired like myself I was invited to stop by more often. I think I'll take him up on that. I've spent the last year working on my house and chasing a couple of women who were not right for me. I think I'm just going to put my life on cruise control and see where it takes me. If someone comes into my life that's great. If not that's great too. I have put too much emphasis on finding a mate to bad results. So now I'll leave it to fate and see where that goes.

That sounds like the perfect weekend. I'm moving back closer to my lifelong friends.
I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.

Someone (I think it was Tesla quoting someone else) talked about the time between grief and healing as "cocooning". It has always made me smile - it is what this feels like.

I may have reached a point where I'd piss on him if he was on fire.... eventually!!

This is a really nice update. It gave me the warm fuzzies ha ha.
A hawaiian friend of mine used to constantly tell me "sometimes cayc you just have to hang ten" in reference to my habit of constantly planning, charging forward, and always trying to lock something into place.
For sure, things always go better for me when I just back off, go with the flow, "hang ten" and just be.
You've got a lot of things to relax, be happy and about and enjoy in the moment. I'm glad the pressures have backed off a bit so you can do so.
