You all are my kind of peeps

I love most non-human critters but I suppose I'm more of a dog person.

I worked as a vet tech and at the SPCA for many years before becoming a stay at home mom. Needless to say, I have never not had a pet in my adult life until last July when we had to put down our 18 year old dog.

A few months before last Christmas I started looking for a dog to adopt because our house needed some serious cheering up after (huge) DDay#2 in August. In February, after several shelter trips and meeting a few dogs from rescue groups I ended up finding a 1 year old Pug in the local paper that needed to be re-homed. My boys have been obsessed with pugs for years and begged for one but I told them we were adopting, not buying. I knew the second we met him that he was the one.

Diesel (we kept his name) has been the best medicine for post-affair recovery. He is absolutely the goofiest, sweetest cuddle bug ever! After having him for a few weeks it dawned on me that I was laughing again....something I hadn't done in a long time and not sure I ever would.
He is a life saver. I'd post a pic but have no idea how. Duh.

On a side note....This past weekend I made a trip to the Richmond, VA SPCA just to check out their state-of-art facility. It was great as far as shelters go. Now, I just need to win the lottery so I can build my own animal shelter. In the meantime, I volunteer to transport dogs from high-kill shelters to local rescue groups.

Sadtoo, love those Mastiffs. Growing up we got a mut she was supposed to be half lab, and half St Bernard. She looked just like your Maggie. Her name was Sophie, and she was the best dog ever. I grew up with her, and still think of her often. (Personally I think there was a Mastiff in the mix.)

Sadtoo your pictures are awesome!!!

I grew up with a St Bernard. I just love big dogs.

Here's the 4 week old picture of the litter my puppy is in. Your guess is as good as mine as to which one he is

We pick him up on Tuesday, and he will be a little over 8 weeks old.

That is way too much cuteness in one picture!!!!

How in the heck did she manage to get them all to stay still long enough to get the picture?!?! I can't even get 2 kids to cooperate for a pic!

Meta,
OMG! Those puppies are so CUTE!! I can't wait to see more pictures of your puppy. Enjoy because they grow up so fast. I can't believe my two are already a year old in a couple days.

TN,
There must have been Mastiff in your Sophie because they are amazing dogs! I have so enjoyed these two puppies over this first year. They are so good. They are so eager to please and anxious to learn new things.

And I credit them with extending Stella's life. 11 is old for a giant breed.

I'm an animal person that leans heavily into dog person..

At present I've got a 40+ year old Amazon Parrot that I inherited when my Mom died.. He adores me & yells "Mooom" just like the kids when he wants me to come play with him, there is no love like getting leathery kisses from a parrot.

This is Polly (Ya, my mom wasn't too original when she named him)

Then DD got 2 Guinea pigs for Christmas last year.. I love guinea pigs & their sounds & antics.. but I keep forgetting their names (I think they're Mercy & Belle) I call them "white piggy" & "Brown piggy"
Yes, white piggy is a big old dust mop

& the 2 tiered condo they call home

& this my friends, is the QUEEN of the house or should I say Princess as it's fitting her name.. Leia... she has EVERY single person in our house wrapped around her paws..

.

I have owned dogs all of my life & I can honestly say she is the BEST dog I have ever had, NEVER chewed anything ( well except for her used Kleenex fetish as a pup), was paper trained the day we got her & went to the sliding glass door to let us know she needed potty within 2 weeks of us getting her.. She is easily trained & I swear she understands when I talk to her. Her only 'flaw' is she is my Velcro dog.. She is constantly near me, (well, unless someone has food then "Goodbye Mom" )

I would love to adopt a playmate for her but I'm not sure how well she'd tolerate it.. She does love the guinea pigs & is so overprotective of them when they are playing out of the cage.. it kinda worries me

"Sorry" works when a mistake is made, but not when trust is broken. So in life, make mistakes, but never break trust. Because forgiving is easy, but forgetting & trusting again is sometimes impossible

There are 15 of these in my kitchen. You just can't see them all. LOL. I'd say I'm a dog person, but there are also two cats that let us live here with them too.

Yep. Thirteen puppies and their mothers. And yes, on purpose. I'm not a crazy dog hoarder! I breed cocker spaniels and, much like us girls, they went into heat at the same time. Except for the poop, I'm in Heaven!

Love this thread!!! I am an animal lover. I currently have two 15 month old rescue cats - tuxedos, both girls from the same litter, and a (rescue) 4-year-old German Shepherd (female).
