Temp work is actually a good way to bridge the gap or, it can be a way to find the next permanent gig.
I did it many years ago. What I found was that you could define some parameters and tell the agency that you are not interested in real short term assignments. You could indicate that you want to replace folks on maternity leave or disability. Not only does that give you a little more stability, but sometimes the regular employee chooses not to return to the job and it opens the door for you.
