Yup even if you never have another attack again with your family history of colon cancer you have to get scoped every 5 years at a minimum.
If you can figure out what triggered it then you can avoid it. In the old days they told people with diverticulitis not to eat nuts and seed, but multiple studies have proven this not to be true for everyone. There are a handful of people though who get it, that know exactly what they ate that caused it, and avoid it like the plague.
I had one guy who couldn't eat cucumbers, another who couldn't have popcorn another couldn't eat sunflower seeds. But over all you SHOULD eat a high fiber diet. Fiber is the glue that holds things together, so waste material (ie nuts seeds, smaller particles) don't get stuck in those pesky diverticuli.

Good Luck!!!

Yes, I remember my grandmother telling me she could not eat tomatoes because of the seeds. Tomatoes don't seem to set it off. If I have more than one coffee I sometimes get a bit off....I love coffee. And coffee has no seeds, so that may not have anything to do with the diverticulitis.

My bread is now always brown...fortunately I love whole wheat or multigrain breads...though I do love a fresh french baguette with cheese.

My brother has not yet had his first colonoscopy. It took forever for him to get around to doing the "smear" test, and I expect that will be as far as he'll go. Men and their bums....geesh!!! I mean, I'm not crazy about it either, but I'd like to live a long life.
