Sorry if I am hogging the travel channel portion of the program, but....

My Mom just got laid off from her job. It wasn't a complete shock but she is still bummed. I say 'Welcome to early retirement, Mom!'

Anyway, she says that one of her bucket list items is Niagara Falls and I already have off Sept 6 - 9 (next weekend).

Is 2 1/2 days (fly in to Buffalo Friday, fly back Monday) too long or too short of a stay in Niagara? Is there anything else to do there besides the falls? Is there any other cool sightseeing in the surrounding area?

Thanks again for your help! You guys are the best!

My sister and I spent a few hours there when we were driving from Boston to Tucson one time. Even that was worth it. I'd say go for it. I don't know about nearby attractions but we did this thing where you take an elevator to some platforms near the base of the falls and get drenched by the spray. It was really cool. The boat tour looks neat too.

The NY side of the falls wasn't as nice as the Canadian side. If you don't have passports then doing the maid of the mist boat tour is the best way to see the falls. IMO. It is hard to see it when you are just at the top edge of the falls.

See the Falls (all of them!) from the Canadian side.

Go on the Maid of the Mist. Walk behind the Falls. Take a helicopter ride over the Falls with Niagara Helicopters. Go on a JetBoat ride with Whirlpool JetBoats. Ride the Spanish AeroCar over the whirlpool. Walk along by the rapids. Lose some money at the casino--or pay no taxes if you win. Nah, nothing to do in Niagara Falls. LOL. If you still have time, visit the Butterfly Conservatory just down the parkway from the helicopters and AeroCar.

If you go to the Canadian side, go to Niagara on the Lake. Nice little town to spend a day walking through... And if you are up to it, you can take the Ghost tour vast night!

Definitely go AND stay on the Canadian side. The American side sucks in comparison. I like the behind the falls better than the Maid of the Mist. And I second the butterfly place on the way to Niagra on the Lake. And check out and see if they're still having the Shaw festival in NotL. In fact I'll only stay in a hotel or B&B in NotL and then drive down to the falls.

We stayed at a hotel close to the falls. When the fire works were going it was like you were in the middle of them I thought that was cool. I don't remember the name of the hotel, but if you want it, message me & I'll dig out the old CC receipt & find out.

I am an official Niagara Falls ambassador. I have the certificate and pin to prove it!

On the Canadian side there is also a whole pile of places to visit like "Madam Tussards", "Ripley's Believe it or Not", etc....good ways to spend money, but good for a laugh too.....
Look for "Clifton Hill"...it has a lot of these places and many other shops on it.....

Also make sure you go out and see the falls at night when they turn the lights on. Really pretty, and best seen from the Canadian side.
