I've been thinking this is something I need to do.

But, the one thing I want should my children ever lose me at an early age is that I want my kids to stay here in this city where they were born. And my concern is that their father might uproot them somewhere else.

Is it possible for my children to be looked after by my close friends, a couple with one child, during the times that I would usually have custody or would they just go straight to their fathers full-time?

A morbid question I know but it's been in my mind.

Yes, you need a will because minor children cannot inherit your estate directly. So you need to set up a trust that a trusted friend or family member to manage the estate until your children are 18 (or older if you specify that).

AS far as custody, the surviving parent gets sole legal and physical custody except in extreme circumstances (they are in prison, they have limited supervised visitation, they have already terminated their parental rights ..etc). You can specify your wishes in your will but he is under no obligation to follow your wishes.

Thanks again Dreamboat.

I'm not worried that he would have sole custody but their lives are here and so are their friends.
