We celebrate Oktoberfest in September for a good reason, and it is not the Julian vs. Gregorian calender or anything to do with how the calender got fucked around during the Roman empire. It is so the huge Oktoberfest parties here can have a raffle with tickets to Oktoberfest in Bavaria, for your chance to see what the Germans call bierleichen.

Aesir,

I tried to read your posts, but there were simply too many syllables in those words and I got confused.

My take away is that I can party like it's ocktoberfest for both September and October. Right?

I won't be drinking this this weekend, but whatever I'm drinking it will disappoint because I will be thinking of....

All this talk about Oktoberfest made me remember this....

Which made me think of this beer....which in turn made me think if anyone reading along here works for The Gambrinus Company, screw you for killing off one of my all time favorite brands....

DR - Pete's was fricking awesome. I was really fond of their Wicked Winter Brew.

ontheslope - I do enjoy a good hefe. They're fun to make, too.

Hefeweizen rocks but for me itís all about the mood Ė sometimes itís just too light.

And I agree Peteís was awesome. I did not miss it much until you all reminded me. Damn when can I get out of here (work) and go get that beer.

I personally think we should set a goal of cataloging and reviewing all the beers of Belgium. They have so much more than Stella.

aesir,

I've tried, don't know if it can be done. There's a beer museum/store/bar in Bruges that tries to stock every one of them, but some are only available on tap where they are made. Even so, they had something like 300 varieties in stock.

But trust me, I put a lot of effort into the project over an extended period of time. Love to go back anytime I can.

aesir - Ever since you've mentioned Belgian ales, I've been trying to think what my favorites are. There's so many. I think I've got it narrowed down to Kasteel, Gulden Draak, and Westmalle. Not necessarily in that order.

Damn... I knew I should have become a monk.

I'm still sober, damn it.

That condition will be remedied soon.

Heineken for me tonight.

Here's a toast to my BM brothers:

May you all have a great weekend full of good food, beer, entertainment, and sex. Not necessarily in that order.

May your WWs also have lots of good sex this weekend, but only with you. And for those who choose to stray again...eff 'em...they aren't good enough for you anyway.

Peace brothers.

Losfer

I'd have to go with Orval as my first choice, but hard to find in the US. Duvel almost as good and easier to find here in Colorado. Both better than Chimay, which you can get almost everywhere and plenty good enough.

And then there's Bruges Zot, and Zot Dubbel, its darker brother. Pretty much only available in Bruges and selected parts of Belgium, these two have got my number.

And then there's the saisons and the sours, and all of the other crazy shit they brew over there. Belgium is beer heaven. "Lord, can I please just go there when I die?"

Favorite toast of all time:

"May we all live as long as we want, and never want as long as we live."

Sadly... I can't use it anymore.

But - those thoughts can wait. Tonight, beer! And then maybe sex. If I can stay awake until my W gets home.
