I know there have been topics about this but I just wanted to reiterate to please be careful in your NBs.

Co-worker is doing OLD and was just head over heads. They never met in person but he called regularly, they skyped, etc.

Whelp - he asked for money. She said no but it was a red flag.

She said she couldn't fine much online so I did some digging. Within 10 minutes I found he has TONS of aliases tied to that same picture, etc. (THANK you to Catfish for educating the public!!!! The Google Image search really does work.)

He was a pro...he gave her enough info to make him sound legit. The name he gave tied to an address of where he said he lived. He (somehow) was able to call her and make it look like the call was coming from the number tied to that house as well (all in her town).

None of which are true...he is an international scammer. She is in discussions with the proper authorities, etc.

I am just blown away that he Skyped so she could actually see the person was the same as in the pictures.

Anyway - be careful guys. Do your homework and never-ever loan that money.

***Thank you....this message has been brought to you by the Safety Board.....*****

J/K but that is what I feel like.

I posted a separate thread but tell your firend to use - pigbusters.net. It is a great site to detect scammers.

I have no affiliation with this site just know it helped a very good friend from getting caught up in a scam.

Whelp - he asked for money. She said no but it was a red flag.

That's so sad. I'm sorry she got scammed but thank God she was smart enough not to send money.

My ex seems to be in the process of being scammed in a similar way. He has sent hundreds if not over $1,000 to a stranger overseas that he skypes with (my kids saw him skyping with her and it really hurt my sons feelings but that's another topic). I can't say the possibility of him being scammed makes me sad though He's dumb enough that many, many requests for money doesn't seem to send up any red flags and he would naively give it thinking he will get something out of it in the end.

The whole OLD thing is SO scary but it's stuff like this that makes me weary of ever giving it a try.
