Anyway, we have both been on meds since last Monday. His mouth looks completely cleared up but my nipples are still in sooooo much pain! I don't want to stop breastfeeding just yet but Ive been supplementing with formula quite a bit bc it hurts so much. Its not his fault and its so hard wanting to nurse him but have to give him a bottle instead but this mama hurts!
Anyone else had this? How long did it take to get better? Dr said about 2 weeks but I haven't felt ANY relief at all yet

DD received medication that I swiped in her mouth and my nipples burrrrrrnnnneeedddd. The only thing they told me to do was use an athlete's foot cream on my nipples. Which is just weird but it worked. You can still nurse while he has it. Just apply the cream on you and the medication in his mouth after you nurse. You can also take ibuprofen for the pain.
There is also something called gentian violet if you don't want to go the medication route. It stains purple but kills yeast on contact and you don't have to worry about the baby sucking on athlete's foot cream!

I'm getting out of here.
Thank you! I'm going to try the gentian violet. I get some relief if I feed him after he takes his meds, idk if they have a numbing effect or what but that helps.
Nursing him is one of my greatest comforts these days and I hate that I'm in so much pain I cant hardly bear it. Definately trying out ur recommendation.
Thank you again!
It can be a very persistent bug. It is basically a form of fungal/yeast infection, make sure you are eating yogurt 2 times a day, and taking acidophillus, this will help build your own immune system against it.
It stinks that you are so sore, Grandma swore by apple vinegar for this. I swished with it when I had it in my mouth, and at first it hurts, but then is some relief....You may want to try that, or try rubbing yougurt on your nips, and then pumping, just to keep your supply up, then when healed go back to nursing, but hey 7 months, is awesome. You may not want to stop yet, but many babies tend to wean off around this age, and you have given your infant a great start.
I was unable to breast feed, mine are just for show evidently. Anyway....my kids both ended up being very health, so relax mom. You will get through this.
I do understand what you're saying about the self weaning though, he's becoming more distracted and less interested in nursing as long . Hes my last baby, I want him to stay little bitty
My doctor had me up the liquid I was putting in baby's mouth on my mipples, which did help some. But when someone told me about Lansinoh, that is when things changed. Not sure why, but this was soothing and really helped.
I used the violet as well, but it did not work as well for me for some reason, which was a bummer as I tend to lean towards herbs, etc.
Good luck finding the combo that works for you both, it is tough, but worth it.
