The thing to watch out is that you don't retreat to prevent hurt. Choosing to do things alone but having the ability to do things with someone else very quickly would be a healthier balance then just getting yourself living alone.
I feel when you shut people out, you quickly only see the rudeness and negativity for people then to show that more freely then kindness and helpfulness. Indifference seems to be the norm with people you have no connections with. Thus one needs to not be alone (this doesn't mean you have to be in a romantic relationship) in order to have healthy human interactions.
Now being good to yourself is awesome and if you can continually show that and weed out the people that aren't contributing to being good to yourself. You will flourish. This doesn't mean you only keep people around that worship you. This statement is more of the don't keep people in your life that use you or hurt you. I think you get that though. AKA Moo
