Today we got a card from our local animal shelter telling us it's been one year since "Gotcha Day". They celebrate "Gotcha Day" to commemorate a homeless cat or dog finding a forever family/home.

One year ago today is when we brought Roxy home. I remember the day after we found out we got her I went into work and told my manager "I *have to* take Friday off" (we picked her up on a Thursday) because I didn't want her to be left alone her first full day with us.

She's a completely different dog from how she was at the shelter. There, she was wary, a little skittish, tail tucked between her legs and avoided eye contact. NOW however, she's an attention hound. Sometimes she wags her tail so hard you'd think her butt was gonna fall off. She's more my Hs dog (or is he her human?) but usually when I get home from work, she'll sit beside me and lean her head on my chest.

After losing Bella we were wanting another dog but weren't 100% sure we were ready but seeing Roxy so reserved, we knew she needed a forever home and that we could give her one.

jo, she got a treat when we got home a few minutes ago. We had some running around to do, one stop was the store. She *loves* Jack Link's Teriyaki beef jerky nuggets. Had the whole 3.25 oz. bag gone in less than a minute. I tend to doubt she even tasted it.

But she's a good dog. Like I said, a complete 180 from how she was. It was her demeanor that caught our attention - she was the only dog *not* up and asking for attention when we went back to look. And we did go just to look. I realize now that "just looking" at a shelter is nigh on impossible.

Thanks everyone. Right now she's sacked out on Hs side of the bed, looking *very* comfortable... but when he comes to bed, she'll snuggle up with him. Like I said, he's her human.

I love animals and all of our dogs and cats came from shelters. However, our last dog from the shelter unfortunately was completely different from when we saw her.

We got her home and even though she was cleared for good health she was found by our vet to have a serious heart condition which resulted in a lot of very expensive meds. She also did not like other dogs and would fight them. This made it hard to take her for a walk. But, I would never abandon an animal and we kept her until old age.

If we got another dog, I would definitely get another one from a shelter.

Yea Roxy!

Roxy has gotten along with other dogs once the initial jockeying for position is over. My SIL brought her dog over once wnd there was the usual dominance dance but once that was settled the two got along fine. My SILs dog, Yoko, ended up dominant mostly I think because she's older than Roxy.

Hopefully Roxy will be with us a long while. She had a clean bill of health when we took her to the vet for her rabies shot though she was just a tad underweight. I think it's about time for another visit just to make sure.

Which bring up a question I have. Are rabies shots a one off thing or are "boosters" needed?
