As I posted previously, we’ve discovered an issue with H’s heart. Went to cardiologist yesterday; news not great. The valve that’s defective is his aortic, which is the one that helps pump blood out of the heart to the rest of the body. His only has 2 flaps and it should have 3. Surgery is no longer a question of if, but how soon. Attendant issues that typically are related to this include a higher risk of stroke and aneurysm.

They’re in the process of scheduling a TE (trans-esophageal?) scope. They’ll put him to sleep and run a tube down through his esophagus to take a better look at things. This will help determine when the repairs need to be made. My gut says that this will be happening before the year is out.

Any thoughts, prayers, good karma that could be spared I would really appreciate being sent up on H’s behalf. To be honest - We're both really freaked out about all this; it definitely puts a lot of other things in perspective. We're taking turns breaking down.

Wanna - I went through this with Wasband about 7 years ago. Open heart surgery to repair a faulty valve flap (although it was mitral valve rather than aortic).

Everything was terrifying and overwhelming. And everything turned out just fine.

PM me if you want to talk, compare notes, or just vent.

Hang in there, honey. (((((wanna & H)))))

My stepfather had a mitral valve replacement a few years ago. Sailed right through it. I will be praying that your H's replacement goes even better than his! (((hugs)))
