We are fostering a 5wk old kitten. She is such a cutie. The downside is that she is teething. For only weighing a little over 1 lb, she has one heck of a strong bite. We've tried kitty teethers/chew toys, cold/frozen wash clothes, and regular cat toys. The vet said I can't use baby orajel. I thought it was a good idea. Massaging her jaw seems to help.

I feel like a chew toy. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Stop squeeking. It's confusing the kitten.

Try freezing a hot dog and see if she will chew on that?

A frozen bagel might work too. It used to work for my DS

Thank you. I will try both your ideas.

I don't mind a little pain when she is chewing my arm/hand. It's when she really clamps down and bites hard, that really hurts.

The frozen meat/bagel bit sounds like just the ticket.

Also, you're teaching her good manners by not allowing her to bite/mouth you. Her future forever home will thank you for it later.

Um what about smacking/flicking her nose an telling her no. If you don't stop her now she will think its ok to bite as an adult.
Give her plenty of other options of things to bite, I don't know of she will let you but puppies like to have their gums rubbed when they are teething.

Thank you both.

We have one cat. She has 6 cat trees, 3 tunnels, 2 scratch posts, a tent, and a boatload toys. The foster kitten loves all of the toys minus the teethers. I thought she would chew some of the cat stuff we have.

I'm going to try massaging her gums and offering frozen foods.

I never allowed my cats to bite, chew or otherwise use their mouths on me (other than the very gentle love bite). It's a super bad habit. Cats & kittens that used their teeth too hard would get an unpleasant "NO!" and removed from my company.

Try the hissing sound. I find that gets my cats attention faster than any other sound.
