OMG, yesterday DS found a snake hiding in our kitchen behind the buffet! He was using the flashlight to check its whereabouts and the snake came slithering out and DS dropped the flashlight on the floor and leapt out of the way. (Ok that was kind of comical)...

My other DS came running in, there was a LOT of commotion going on, some screaming (me and them, LOL!)...the snake was contained and is gone! Thank God!

DS thought it was the moccassin who was in a hanging flower basket from a few weeks ago, but turned out to be a chicken snake or something like that.

So, what became of Mr. Slithers?

Was there a birds nest in the basket? I have had snakes get into them before to eat the eggs or baby birds, especially the bluebird boxes we have up all over our trees.

Snakes in the house tend to freak you out for sure. BTDT (as I'm sure you saw in DS's posts about Mr. Slithers).

Tushnurse, one of the first things I thought of after the hysteria had passed and the snake was removed was DS! "Omg, what if this visitor showed up at her house, they'd probably have to shut down half of the Woodlands!"

There is a bird bath about 2 feet away from where the snake was heading. I have a family of cardinals and even a white winged dove who are regular visitors. But he was out of luck for a bird dinner as they must have sensed him in the basket and suddenly flew away and that's when I first noticed it coiled in the basket! Chills!!!!

Do snakes leave a smell or something because the birds haven't been coming to the bath/feeder much since.

Oh no way. My kitty brought in a dead ugly ugly little brown snake that had a black shiny head. It was pencil thin and about 6 inches long.

I was carrying a TV and dropped it. Good thing it was already broken!

Anyway, said snake is supposedly a spider eater. But he's nocturnal. Damnit. I didn't sleep that night and was certain I could never be out after dark again. I lay there that night thinking about him just being a little baby - with 9,000 siblings just hatched, and a Momma the size of a python.
Lord, I almost had to move.

I'm gonna creep you out

We have little snakes in the potted plants quite often. They are easy to catch. Pretty!

I leave the big ol rat snakes in the trees alone. Too fast. Plus I don't want to discourage them from eating whatever rodents live on our wooded lot. I keep hoping they'll go after the squirrels.

Now, squirrel in the house -- that's a lot worse than a snake!

ETA to remove double post.

We all still have the creeps! DS thought it was a shadow on the floor at first as it was going behind the buffet and then got the flashlight and found out it wasn't his imagination. And all the 'fun' began. Snake caused mass hysteria for a little while.

DS, moving is a thought!

We've got two Chi's and a dachshund and I hope they'll warn us if any other visitors come in! I pinned them up in the bathroom when 'catch the snake' was happening. YUK!!!!!!!!

Hi all.

I love a good snake story.

Here in Oz we have fabulous snakes.

We live on a farm and used to have a dalmatian who would grab them by the tail and crack them like a whip. As far as I know he was never bitten.

One day my H was in the dining room and heard what sounded like someone banging on the front screen door.

He went to look. The gauze was torn in a couple of places at the bottom of the door.

A black snake about 5 foot long had managed to get through the hole. So about half of his body was in the house and the other half on the outside. The dalmatian had hold of his tail and the snake was thrashing the front of his body up and back against the screen. The noise was incredible.

Amazingly the dalmatian lived to the ripe old age of 13. He was an wonderful dog.

DS, I could just imagine you running out of your house screaming "SNAKE" so loudly that the neighbors would come running with weapons.

Yewtree, my sons both had nightmares that night.

Laura, OMG! My grandmother had a little Yorkie and was doing some gardening one day and hearing a strange sound she turned around to see the Yorkie with a moccasin in her mouth snapping it around. It fell dead in a few seconds.

ROTFLMAO

I'm kind of glad that your photos aren't working for me Crushed1. Also .. what state do you live in? Because it's being crossed off the "visit" list.

I think I would twitch when I went to bed and have to keep checking that there weren't any snakes.

I hope the snake never comes back.

As I said, I love a good snake story.

I had almost forgotten this one.

About 20 years ago my H had a very old car. Built in the 1950s as I recall. It was quite rare, so people often stopped to look at it.

He was in town one day and parked outside the post office. He came out and there were two old men standing a few feet back from the car and leaning over, apparently trying to see something underneath.

He asked them what they were doing and they said something about seeing part of a large brown snake hanging down from the tail pipe. They said it had disappeared up under the car.

With his new friends my H searched inside and under the car. Without success.

He was understandably nervous for a while.

One night a few weeks later he came home from work about 11pm. He came inside and about 30 minutes later remembered he had left his phone on the seat in the car and went to get it.

When he opened the passenger side door he found a large snake skin on the floor.

He continued to be nervous for quite some time after that.

We never saw the snake again thank God.

I just realized I picked my feet up off the floor as I was reading this.
One night my son and his roommate were coming over for dinner. The front door was wide open and my poodle started barking like crazy. I scolded her because I thought she was barking at the guys . Nope she was barking and snapping at a snake! Good girl! We were all pretty freaked out!

Meta...Texas...

Laura, omg...eeekkkkk! Did you ever find out what kind of snake that was in the vehicle?

Yewtree, that night after the snake visitor, I came up behind youngest DS (19) and touched him on the shoulder and he jumped up off the sofa and whirled around! "Mom! don't ever do that after a snake has been in the house!!!"
