Thanks, deeplysad. I was thinking how much better I'm doing now but a group I joined is having a meeting tonight that I had rsvp'd to attend and now I'm not going. Just don't want to be out there after dark again just yet. Call me chicken, call me cautious, whatever, but I'm staying home! Besides, they're still in rut and sex crazed, chasing the does mercilessly!

The one you can't really prevent is where they run into the side of your car (happens).

True, TR. It happened to me. It hit the car ahead of me. Neither of us saw that one do that. She felt and heard it but I didn't see it until it was falling right in front of my car.

My husband always says, "never swerve to avoid an animal because you can either 1: end up overturned in a ditch, or 2: run head on into traffic.

Ok, my MIND gets that, really it does, but still I find myself wanting to jerk if I see something in the road. I just slow down at night.

Not swerving and slowing down are both good advice. I generally slow down at night just because I can't see as far in just the headlights. I think I'll slow down a bit more for a while anyway.

I know how awful it is to hit an animal.

I hit a deer about 4 or 5 yrs ago.

I was on my way to work around 6am. Maybe earlier. I had the kids in the car bc at the time my sitter was four streets away from work.

The truck in front of me swirved and missed the deer. Dumb thing turned back around then swerved the other way. I ended up hitting her. She then fell on my hood, which pushed the hood back down. The guy in the truck stopped to check on us. Just body damage. Kids were okay. They didnt cry but dd then three had eyes as big as saucers.

I stopped at one of our associate offices that I pass on the way to my office. This coworker alwayz makes me laugh. True to form, she pointed to my car and said "look, you scared the shit out of it". There was deer poop all over the side of my car which I washed off at the car wash at lunch.

I felt bad for the deer bc I knew eventually she would die from the hit...even tho I was going 30mph as I slowed down after I saw the near miss ahead of me.

Its rutting and hunting season. These animals dart out of nowhere and travel in at least packs of 2.

I am glad youre okay and I hope you didnt sustain much damage.

Eta: I am not repairing my muffler til after rut and hunting season is over. The noise tends to keep most of them at bay. I also drive slower and use high beams when I can. When I come to work its dark. When I leave work its dark. Im not fond of this time of year (rutting/hunting season)

People tell you exactly who they are...why expect them to be what they are not
