WH is having a hard time with quitting smoking. He has done it before with the patch, but returned to smoking later. The patch gives him horrible nightmares. Has anyone tried being hypnotized?

I was a smoker and I tried to be hypnotized. It didn't work because I wasn't suseptable to it. What worked for me, after many many years of smoking, was an electronic cigarette. I still needed that oral fixation. After a while I got bored of it and finally quit.
Good luck to your WH. I know how hard it is!

I was hypnotized by my IC as part of my therapy. It was a very good experience for me, but I was not attempting to change any habits but rather to access some buried emotions. I think it worked for me because I completely trusted my IC. I had been seeing her for almost a year at the time.
I am not sure how hypnotizing works to stop smoking. Perhaps planting a desire to stop while also planting negative feelings associated with smoking? To me it kinda sounds like a silver bullet (which is fiction btw).
My BIL had good luck with Chantix. He had smoked for over 30 years and has been smoke free for about 4 years now. Like your H, he tried to quit many times before but was not able to kick the addiction.

My mom quit smoking with the help of hypnosis almost thirty years ago. She never smoked another cigarette - but she was highly motivated. My grandma had been diagnosed with emphysema and my mom didn't want to smoke around her anymore. Her best friend went with her, was not as motivated, and didn't work for her.
I think that you have to want to quit for any method to work successfully. I quit cold turkey when I got pregnant with my daughter, and it was the first time I quit successfully. I really wanted it that time.

a dear from, whom I met on this board, was hypnotized, as was her husband, to quit smoking. It totally worked for them. They haven't smoked in years and don't have the desire.

It works like a charm for two family members, both multi pack, life long smokers, didn't work as well for another, despite several attempts...
