Going to SIL's for Thanksgiving like we always do. I decided I'm going to bring some potato latkes, since it's Hanukkah .

This confuses things .

Is it normal for Hanukkah to be this early?

I read somewhere that the last time this happened was 125 year ago.

GA... it moves around the "Christian" Calendar because it's set on the Jewish Calendar which is different. (don't ask me how)

It's early, but it's been this early before...

There was a latke "bar" at my friend's rehearsal dinner this summer. All the toppings of the rainbow (including turkey bacon.)

There's nothing confusing about delicioiusness!

I'm using my Menorah as my centerpiece for my Thanksgiving dinner.

Our rabbi once said (and of course I'm not saying it as eloquently as he did) that Hanukkah isn't early this year, it's exactly where it's supposed to be on the Jewish calendar.

Menorah centerpiece...I like it!

Oh! I know this one!

The "Christian" calendar is actually the Gregorian calendar (a standardized calendar established by the Catholic church in the 1500s, and the most widely used calendar in the world today). The Jewish calendar is based on cycles of the moon, and long out dates the Gregorian calendar. That's why Jewish holidays "move" on the gregorian calendar every year. In short, the Jewish calendar has extra "leap months" once in a while. You can read more here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebrew_calendar#Leap_months

and more on the Gregorian here:

Bumping this because we took advantage of the yummy kosher food display and made matzo ball soup tonight!

DD3 actually did most of it (we dropped the dough in the water with a reeeeeeeeeally long spoon.)

She ate the heck out of the soup too. So cool!

Everyone ready for next week?
