abby,
Yes...tinsel!!!

I thought it would be fun to do something unexpected. Also the cards themselves had glitter on them from the store.

Actually, I picture 8 hairy little legs picking up glitter and that crazy glitter dust stuff and tracking it everywhere. 79 times over. They'd track it back to their little egg sacks, where out would hatch mutant beautifully ugly glitter spiders. You would create a new species bent on world beautification.

Idk Moo. Better not chance it. The world is not ready for that much glitter.

Nah. I know there are some Scrooges that doesn't like glitter. So I tried to be nice to those who had "sensitivities" to it.

Well AbbyCadabby just succeeded in giving my mind material for nightmares tonight. *sigh*

When it comes to glitter, yes. Which doesn't make sense because you totally get a kick out of getting your toes painted. Glitter nail polish, glitter in Christmas cards....really, what's the diff? Mwahahaha

But they'd spin shimmery webs!
Shimmery or otherwise, they'd get sucked into the vacuum. Maybe I'm diabolical but I hate spiders.

Someone told me the legend of the spiders on the Christmas tree. For 2 seconds I was like, "Awwwwwww!" then "Heck. No."

I hate spiders too. Their only redeeming quality is eating other creepy crawlies.

I've not heard the legend, but we had a live Christmas tree once. We were unaware that inside this tree somewhere was an egg sack...

Which hatched. One morning we awoke and found what seemed like MILLIONS of tiny spiders crawling on the ceiling.

::double shudder::

I don't know what you are talking about. You must have me mistaken with you.

AbbyCadabby here's the story.

Once upon a time, long ago, in Germany, there lived a poor widow and her children in a tiny cottage. The mother had no money to buy her children a lot of gifts but she so wanted them to have a tree.

After putting the kids to bed she went and cut a tree down and placed it in the house and decorated it with fruits, nuts, and cookies she had made. The gentle mother then busily cleaned her house, in preparation for the most wonderful tradition of the year, the coming of the Christ Child, bringing gifts for Christmas Eve. She then fell into her bed exhausted and worried that her children would not have a happy Christmas.

Not a speck of dust was left. Even the spiders had fled their corner and gone to the attic. At last the time drew near. The tree was decorated and the children were delighted. The poor spiders however were frantic!! They could not see the tree.

The oldest and wisest spider suggested they creep out of the attic and peek through a crack in the threshold. Soon, the door opened and they quickly sneaked into the room. The tree towered so high, they could only see one ornament at the top, so they scurried along each branch, admiring the glittering beauty. Every place they went, they left a train of dusty gray web, until finally the entire tree was covered with it.

When the Christ Child saw this, he was happy that the spiders had seen the tree, but, he knew the mother would be broken hearted about it's dusty gray appearance. He reached out and touched the webs and blessed them and they all turned a lovely shimmering gold and silver.

On Christmas morning the family awoke to such a lovely sight and all were happy. A beautiful sight to behold, a tree glittering in tinsel.

And so, it became a custom of the Christmas season to decorate their trees with tinsel and to have a spider among the other decorations on the tree.

Aubrie, just be glad you don't live in Australia. They have spiders there as big as your head. Also have some of the most poisonous on earth and the redbacks can be very small. Enough to give me the creeps!

Edited for a typo.
