In a good moment had a light discussion about the best movie series.

She went with Lord of the Rings with the original star wars (not the added on crap).

I, being a typical guy I guess, said Lord of the Rings was good but Alien was my pick (before the vs predators crap).

What do you think? What is the best series?

Oh and Indiana Jones!!!

Thin Man?

I liked Lord of the Rings, but I think The Hobbit may be the worst series - not anywhere near as good as the book, and the movies'll take a lot longer to get through.

ETA: I withdraw the LOTR like. I saw reruns of LOTR last weekend. I watched the 1st, though I thought it got worse as it went along. I stopped watching 2 Towers after about 30 minutes, because I thought it was so bad - attractive on the surface, no depth.

The original star wars is too easy. I'm gonna lose my man card for this, but I'd say Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, and Before Midnight. I had to wait 9 years for each successive film.

My favorites (in no particular order):

Star Wars (original)
Lord of the Rings

My favorite for years was Back to the Future. No hiding my age on that one, eh?

However, after seeing the latest Iron Man movie, I have to rethink what my "favorite" is. I love the character development from the beginning of Iron Man to the end of Iron Man III. Tony Stark is a well-crafted, dynamic literary character. I really wish the trilogy had come out while I was still in college. I would have loved to spend a few hours drinking coffee and discussing. Also, the movie has fabulous special effects and stuff blows up. What more could you ask for?

If we're talking Movie Series, then I have to go with "The Godfather" although III left a bad taste in my mouth.

For me, hands down, the original Star Wars.

I love Harry Potter, but it's really because of the books. The movies alone are too disjointed.

Star Wars, original ones- none of the new crap
Harry Potter
Lord of the Rings
Indiana Jones

I also agree that the Hobbit movie is terrible.

Hmmm... I seem to be quite a follower here!

Thin Man?

And there we have our (currently) obscure winner! Glad to see there are others out there who love the series.

I also thought the original Planet of the Apes movie series was pretty cool as a time-travel story arc.

Star Wars
Iron Man
Even though there are only 2 movies so far, I like the new Sherlock Holmes series

And dare I confess it?
Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead

When I read this thread, my initial response was "Lethal Weapon" (and how can I be the first to mention it?)

Though "Thin Man" and "Harry Potter" have persuasive arguments as well!
