Now that I don't have STBXH's family to buy for, I only buy for my two kids and my mom. (I didn't realize how much time, effort, and money I spent shopping for his family - that's one thing I DEFINITELY don't miss about being married!)

I realize the answer will vary depending on how much things cost where you live, and how old your children are, etc.

Me:BS Him:WH Two young kids
Married 12yrs - together 20
A started 2/09 - S 7/09 - he filed for D 12/09
I wanted to R and he didn't. He never stopped seeing the MOW, who filed for D 11/09. They've since broke up...for now.

Last year I focused on gifts for only my children and I don't even remember what I bought or how much I spent but probably around $100 - $150 per kid. It was just two months after stbx walked so I know I tried my best to make it a joyous and peaceful Christmas.

This year, I am in a much better place emotionally and I am enjoying finding things to buy for my nephews and niece, special family members and of course, my kids. I'm trying to spend between $15 - $20 per nephews and niece and special family members but will spend more on my parents and much more on my kids.

Stbx was/is estranged from his family so we stopped buying gifts for them but I will be buying gifts for my nieces and nephews on his side and for my almost former in-laws.

Ugh. All this talk about money.

I spend around $100-$150 on my daughter, $25-30 for each of my parents, $25 on my brother and $25 for his girlfriend.

I usually buy for my cousins' kids, around $10-15 each, and there are 5 of them.

So around $250+. And that's a lot from me, I don't make a lot of money.

Marriages that start this way, stepping over the bodies of loved ones as the giddy couple walks down the aisle, are not likely to last.
