My husband agreed to go to marriage counseling with me so I am trying to figure this out and find a place to go. I called our insurance company and they said marriage counseling is not covered but family counseling is?!? What is the difference? Also family counseling is covered at a $45 copay. I asked a friend who goes to counseling with her husband and she said their visit with out insurance costs $60 so insurance covers $15 really? I wish the insurance companies and medical community took this more seriously this is ridiculous. Any advice on counseling or services that help lower income families with this would be great. If you need my location feel free to PM me.

It does suck im paying 30 for IC but if you can make it work in your budget please do it because a lawyer could run you 300 an hour and you guys will be paying for 2 of them.

I contacted a family service that runs with Charity donations and I think goes on a sliding scale. Maybe we will get a break yet. I hope so what the point of insurance if it covers nothing? Grrrr

Most places bill marriage counseling as family counseling, so you would likely pay the 45 copay. You can clarify with the office manager/ billed beforehand.

If there is a university near you that trains counselors or psychologists, you could get a sliding scale or very inexpensive rate there.
