On a whim, I went shopping at Marshall's. It's almost Christmas. Last time this year I spent about $600 for everybody else but me to give away as gifts or to replace clothes the DSSs needed. I think I bought only a shirt and a pair of pajamas for myself. If you have ever shopped at Marshall's you know this didn't even amount to $35 spent on myself.
STBXWH was always spending his money on himself or stupid stuff. My money had to cover down for all of us.
I never seemed to have enough money for my needs because he spent so much on his wants.
Today I spent $242.12 on myself, and $100 on donation gift cards for a young girl and boy whose military parents won't be able to buy her Christmas gifts this year. AND...I will be going shopping this weekend for some nice, quality winter boots. Maybe those trendy, caramel colored leather ones that look so hot this winter.
So this is what it feels like. I felt so guilty that I didn't feel guilty for not buying a damn thing for Mr. OgreLover.
Wow, I felt so good. I really felt good. I got myself some nice chocolates, the gourmet ones and another box of the dark chocolate sea salt caramels. BTW they are delicious.
I bought some nice clothes that I wanted. Not for work, not for practical purposes, just stuff that I wanted.
If I'm ever in a relationship with another man, he better be generous and buy me nice things...just as nice as the nice things that I will buy him.
Just saying.

What a wonderful day I had!

I remember this all too well.
One of the first things I did after booting XWH out was to take the kids to the local shelter and let them pick out a pair of kittens.
XWH never wanted pets and the kids and I did.

I also remember one of my first completely self-indulgent shopping sprees. I felt SO guilty, that I almost ruined my own good time. After the first couple of purchases, I got into it though!

Love this!

I'm trying to flip the spending tide around too, but I still have so many people to shop for I wonder if I'm not being too petty and grinchy.

Crescita,
Do some nice shopping for you. I don't feel guilty at all. I'm sending some gift cards for the people that have always been there for me, but I'm done doing for EVERYBODY. Getting rid of him caused me to see how I do so much for others that don't do a damn thing for me.
Pear down your list to the folks that truly count. Then get thoughtful, but inexpensive items.
I'm so tired of not having my needs AND wants met first. No more

I picked up some gorgeous darker leather ones, but I'm still on the hunt for a cognac set of sexy boots. I love my calves, actually, my legs. Not tooting my own horn, but I was known for my legs on Smoke Bomb Hill at Fort Bragg back in the day!
Enjoy your Christmas shopping Crescita. Hey, I'll go with you in a couple of weekends if you want!
I'll be in your neck of the woods then!

For my first Christmas being divorced, I went shopping on Black Friday (online, I can't do the crowds) and bought a toolbox, a shark vacuum, went and bought some clothes a few days later, and a couple of other things I needed. I wrapped them all and put them under the tree and when my son opened his gifts, I got to open mine. He's sensitive, so he would have felt bad if I didn't have anything to open, but it was nice to have something there, even if it was from me. Good on you for treating yourself!

Awwwwww, that is just too darn sweet!
Hug your little boy for me this Christmas!
Love your username, BTW.

Ok, I'm gotta get some work done cuz I'm taking off early. Need to do some retail therapy again! Think I'll look for some mugs for cocoa and those cognac boots!

I just bought a really expensive guitar. It's coming from France and should be here by the end of the week.

Yay me!
