I've never really thought about it until today, but I think I get them. I have a personal history (and a family history) of migraine headaches, so it wouldn't be out of the question. Anywho, for as long as I can remember, I will get these odd stomach aches (with the symptoms of an abdominal migraine)...like I feel like I could throw up, I can't eat, can't drink, can't sleep, and nothing helps with the pain (not even meds, I just have to wait for it to subside). I've been to the ER a couple of times (as a kid) b/c they have been so bad; I've been through the series of testing and everything comes back normal. When I was pregnant, I had hyperemesis gravidarum; not sure if there is any medical link between the two, but again this would seem plausible.

The reason I am posting this is two fold...#1 I cannot sleep b/c I am experiencing one. #2 Has anyone else ever experienced this?

These are extremely rare, and/or under diagnosed. I think probably both. Most often times a person will have. Prior hx of true migraines and family history is common. Does the pain get better with typical migraine treatments?

These are best managed by a neurologist but you should also have a gyn work up to rule out ovarian cysts or other possible issues. Since you are being effected now I would try excedrin migraine to see if you get relief. If you have something like imitrex or relepax I would try it as well. Try to make sure you don't get dehydrated as that seems to worsen the issue and create a cycle.

Tush,

I haven't been on migraine medication for a couple of years now; I get *maybe* two migraines a year, at this point...thank God! I'm still not feeling great, but it isn't nearly as bad as it was last night. I am able to eat, but still feel blah. Hoping to sleep tonight. Thanks for the suggestions. I need to go to the gyn soon, anyway, so I will talk to her about this.

I would urge you to get a refill on whatever "Migraine" med you were on previously and see if you have resolution, of course the key with Migraines is to prevent them from happening in the first place, so something like low dose amitryipiline is also helpful for some patients.

I was on Naproxen and Maxaalt, but the Neuro doc took me off the Maxaalt b/c of the risk of rebound headaches. I take Naproxen in the very rare event that I have one.

Mama,

Dd has these, very hard to cope with. We use heat for her and sleep.

This luck.
