I just got home from my staff Christmas party. I can't believe how much fun I had! I thought it would be weird being one of the only people without a spouse, but it turns out several people came alone. There was one brief conversation about WH because (I guess) not everyone knew that we're separated. This surprised me because though we're teachers and we're legally not allowed to talk about another teacher behind their back, I kinda assumed that people would at least mention that I'm separated.

Anyway, the party was awesome. I didn't stay too long, but I managed to get a good gift during the exchange, a door prize, and some jello shooters. I originally said no to the shooters since I was driving, but decided to take them home with me. Only two though, nothing crazy

I've realized over the last couple weeks that I really, really like the staff at this school, and I hope I can make this my permanent home (on a temp transfer presently).

Another positive is that until that one moment, I never even thought about WH at all. This was my first real event (without supportive family at my side) since we split. I would list it as a success :)

Thanks! The shooters were good, but pretty strong! I'm not a big drinker. Some people mentioned having 5 beers as being "not a lot to drink". I was like: "If I had 5 beers, I'd be under the table...". Lol

This is so great!!! So happy for you and I hope you are able to make this your permanent home. Sounds like you have some great people to work with; the fact that everyone didn't tell everyone is an unusual find. Hopefully this gives you a boost to get through the next week of festivities.

I know! Crazy.

And even the curmudgeon-y people are starting to smile and stuff when we talk, so I'm starting to feel like they actually like me. It's not the "perfect" staff, but I'm thinking it's pretty darn close :)

There's no such thing as the "perfect" staff. "Pretty darn close" is as perfect as it gets. I hope it keeps working out for you!
