What is this? Anybody have a product name I can search for on Amazon?

They are called low flow shower heads. I had an EcoFlow before and it worked perfectly.

I'm hoping the expected rain will be a nice soaker! I know it wont solve the issue, but at this point anything helps!

On Monday, Henry DiCarlo on KTLA Channel 5 told me there would be a slight chance of rain on Thursday. Today, he tells me it's just going to get colder. We are in desperate need of rain down here. I hope my peeps in NoCal get some, at the very least!

They are called low flow shower heads.
You can also buy little disks (usually called a flow reducer or flow restrictor) and put them in existing shower heads. Plumbing aisle of the hardware store. Usually super cheap.

I have set up a system to capture my laundry water, thus using it to water my plants.

Its about 32 gallons per load. And I have a high efficiency washer!

Disclaimer: I am not a plumber or contractor, nor do I play one on tv.

Sooooo

The first thing I did was buy a new large trash can with lid. Then I installed a water spigot at the bottom (2 o rings, plumbers tape, spigot, a metal extension for inside, there is a name for it but I can't remember). I found several youtube videos on how to do it. I keep the can in the garage and I can throw the buckets of water from shower, sink into it anytime.

My laundry room is right next to my entry garage door. So I purchased a clear tube (in plumbing department) hooking it up to the washing drain hose and guided it to the trash can in garage. About 3 feet total. That is the basic.

Now fine tuning:

I placed the can higher (2 cinder blocks on top of 2 cinder blocks). gives height and more flow when I hook up hose. Also most washers drain hose has to empty at 39in from floor (read your instructions) so you have to make sure about that. With the cinder blocks I was ok, even though my garage is 5 inches lower than house.

Now I have also added 2 larger hooks on the wall in the garage, with larger plumbing pipe to aim the hose and water a bit better. I thread the clear hose through the pipe when I want to gather water from machine. That way I can go either way

In the regular drain or into my water saving trash can. To be safe, I taped large garbage bags against the wall in case of water spray (none so far).

Today it is raining (yeah) so too dark to take pics but I will try to take a picture or two to show it.

My daughters are worried I have turned into a hippie!

Thanks for that info!
I thought I saw something like what you described on Pinterest, but it was more rain water collection than washing machine adapted.
Your work-around sounds like something that'd be very useful in our home too (and hubby can do the construction portion for me, hehehe)

My daughters are worried I have turned into a hippie!

I'm a native NYer, so when I posted a few pics on Facebook of some granola I'd made, I got those comments from a couple of siblings. The water collection system will send them over the edge!

It is 64 here and has been drizzling for the last two hours. My lawn appreciates the weather but I am downright disgusted with myself- it is PERFECT prawlin makin' weather and I don't have any bleep bleepin' pecans. I really hope this weather pattern continues through to tonight so I can make a batch or two when I get home from werk.

I did switch laundry detergent.

Costco sells an ecologically friendly one, so when I am "saving water" I use it.

Hm. I've had low flow shower heads before, but never one with an on/off switch like was described.

I'm literally turning the water off in the middle of my shower, but then it's hard to get the temp right again when I turn it back on to rinse.

I'm in Oregon, but even up here we've been unusually dry this year.

My parents are in No. Calif, and they are worried and conserving as much as possible. My mother said she puts a bucket in the shower to catch as much water as possible, then uses that for other things. Just thought I'd pass the idea on here.
