I have made it a goal to open my horizons.

So my hobbies are

Eating (stress eating, not good)
Boot camp (see above)
Reading - go through a book a week on my Kindle
Biking
kayaking
Walking on local trails

New this year:
Volunteer at Red Cross - helping with formal gala event
Volunteer at Loaves and Fishes - food bank, meal service and school for homeless. My first day is in 2 weeks.
Jewelry making. Currently taking free classes at stores. Beading like a crazy person!
Mosaic art. I have a 4 week course starting this coming week. Looking forward to it.

Unfortunately still have time to dwell on the life I have been thrown. But I am SOOOOO trying to fake it till I make it.

I am a big hockey fan, so I have season tickets for a local minor league team.

I have started to get back into photography, mostly sports photography.

I read/collect comic books.

Lately my main hobby has been reading. My library has a huge online collection for Kindle. There are usually waiting lists for popular books so I request a bunch and just read them as they become available.

I bowled in a league for a few years but I am taking some time off from that because the league I was in was expensive and a huge time commitment. I just found a new league that is only $8/week for 8 weeks so I'm considering that.

I keep taking on new hobbies and feeling bad for old ones that I've been neglecting; painting, learning Italian, yoga, running, and hiking.

I would like to learn to crochet, play ice-hockey and home-brew but I'm afraid I'll end up with more neglected hobbies

Horses - just connected with a neighbor who as 18 arabians. It's been a long time since I cared for horses, but I go over and groom a horse or two every couple of weeks. The smell is divine.

The smell ~ ahh...it is a heavenly scent, isn't it? I love everything about my horses. The way they feel, the way they smell, the way they sound. They are amazing.

I have Arabians and 1/2 Arabians crossed with American Saddlebreds. I breed, raise, train & show them. They keep me very busy and very, very happy.

I found a new one last summer (@ age 64)....shooting! It is very exciting to learn something new like this. My fiance bought me a S&W Bodyguard 380 then and I shoot it fairly well. But the RECOIL!! Oy vey!

So I'm trying out bigger guns with 9 mm ammo. I tried one today, shouted out "I Love this gun!" once I had made a few shots......then came home and found on the internet that this gun is carried by most of the U.S. military. Gosh, that just makes me feel like such a girly girl.

I run, bike, and swim. In a few short years when my kids are in college I have been thinking of working with animal rescue groups and fostering. I have also considered becoming a master gardener through the extension service as I enjoy landscaping. I also have a dream business I'm going to get off the ground someday....

Devistatedmom,
I dont know if you like to write? But, that's one of the things that I truly love to do. Between reading self help books to writing/journaling about my own journey. I read your story, and it was strikingly like my own. Same year, met her online, and she was abused etc. What I have found when I read back what I have written over the past 5 years, I realize how far I have grown and not in that dark place anymore. Take that cooking class, if you like walking thats another great thing. I have always been an extrovert but have begun to find I enjoy my alone time now. Drawing Im not to good at but I'm trying different things. Probably the biggest most positive thing that got me through the pain and loneliness. Was and still is spending time with my kids.

Old hobbies that I do and enjoy:
Fish
Read
Hike

New Hobby after Dday that I picked up and has now become a small business:
Beekeeping. I love it. I studied for almost 2 years before actually getting a hive, now I have about 30. H and I do this together, the kids do as well.
We rescue hives in buildings, and places they shouldn't be, we extract honey, we capture swarms, we make lotions with the beeswax, we build the hives.
There are many aspects to having bees, animal husbandry, science, and skill.

To get started the initial investment is the joining fee for any local club. Then you can start researching, and if it's your thing when you are ready the initial hive start up cost is about $200.00. The first time you get honey from your own hives that you have managed is an amazing thing, and a huge accomplishment.

Sorry to go on, but I have a passion for this.

Me, reading and gym time. Like Sazzy, I'm there five days a week... I like group classes like Zumba, yoga, kickboxing and lately Insanity (which truly is insane ).

I'd love to take cooking classes or join a book club but I haven't been able to find those things in my town so far.

I also clock some time on Candy Crush but I'm not really sure that qualifies as a hobby.

I work out a lot - yoga, weights, Insanity, walking, and a little running.

I'm trying to get back into reading too.

And, last fall I took a gun safety course and went to the range. I enjoyed that and would like to maybe do more of that in the future.
