Anyone have any experience with tapping? Do you have to go to a specialist to learn the techniques? Was it helpful? Is it for only trauma and PTSD or will it also work for general anxiety?

Yes. It's called EMDR and it helped me and my H. If you're suffering from PTSD, anxiety or uncontrollable intrusive thoughts, it can help a lot. My children have also used it as part of their therapy to deal with high levels of anxiety.

It's also beneficial almost immediately. I would look for a therapist tgst at us certified and trained.

Good luck (((gotmylifeback)))

WAIT!

What?

Tapping is EMDR? Well, fuck. LOL I have seen the raves of EMDR here, but when my dd was having some issues which were thought to maybe be anxiety related, her doc suggested tapping and I thought that looked whack. Damn. Shit.

I think 'tapping' refers to stuff like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotional_Freedom_Techniques. EMDR uses tapping sometimes, but it's different tapping from EFT - the taps are different, that is. Also, my understanding is that EMDR is not something a person can do for himself; EFT is.

A former therapist of mine, who became an LCPC after a career as a physicist (his contribution to the Manhattan Project got him his Ph.D.) took a very scientific approach to therapy, and he was impressed by EFT. Some therapists I know who take a Buddhist approach to therapy are also advocates for EFT.

I've been taught the technique a couple of times, but I keep forgetting to use it.... I think it's probably good stuff, if practiced regularly.

Is it a hard technique to learn? How can I learn the process? Is it through a counselor, psychologist, therapist? Do I just google tapping therapy in my area?

I used tapping to prevent myself from doing serious physical damage to STBX when I found out about his A. The one I used is 'Transform Your Emotions with Energy Tapping' by Cathy Vartuli , Rick Wilkes. It is now $.99 for the Kindle.

There are lots of others.

EFT is different from EMDR, although they can cross-over since both are somatic (body) techniques. Tapping is super easy and can be done anywhere. EMDR needs a therapist to monitor, at least that's my understanding.
