I use Microsoft Security Essentials.

AVG also offers a free product, but I had trouble finding the download for it.

I'd suggest either AVG Free Edition or Avast!

TrustedHer .. Microsoft Security Essentials.. This is what my new IP suggested, but I didn't know if they were in cahoots or if it's a good one

Microsoft Security Essentials used to be really good but it has slipped a lot in the past few years.

I've been using Avast on all of our home PCs for the past few years with no problems

This might be more than you need, but I used TDSS Rootkiller (Kaspersky) when I had a really, really bad virus problem.

It worked, and was very simple to use.

what did I ever do to deserve this?

I also like Avast. It runs pretty smoothly and catches stuff as you surf.

AVG is good, but I also like Zone Alarm firewall + a/v.

thanks again.

There's no virus problem now, but Norton is running out and I'm looking for something comparable, but free .

going to give some of these a trial run!

At my IT guy's recommendation I run Microsoft Security Essentials on both my business and home computers. Free, easy, and never had a problem.

I've been using MSE for several years, and I have to download a lot of stuff. I also run MalwareBytes every so often.

I assume you checked with your ISP to see if they offer free security.

Avast. It consistently is up there every year with the best anti-virus freeware (PC Magazine). I've used it for years - never had a virus. It all depends on how timely they update their virus definitions.

I rely a lot on these 2 organizations for anti-malware info:
